The Gospel and an Orchestra

When my kids were in the school band, we dutifully went to their concerts and listened to their newly acquired skills. But you know what? It didn’t sound very good.
At that moment, you must ask yourself a question. Was the music written that poorly, or was it the musicians playing it that poorly? And you know the answer to that question.
The music is fine, it’s the performance that is lacking.
You might say the same about the gospel. Stay with me.
I’ve heard people say, “I’ll never be a Christian because of so and so.” What they are saying is that the gospel message is receiving a “poor performance” by its players. It’s unfair to judge the truth claims of Jesus by his followers, but people do.
How can our lives accurately reflect Jesus so that others may know and experience his love and forgiveness?
Glad you asked. Here’s what Jesus said:
So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples. Jesus (John 13:34-35 NLT)
That’s it! We are to love others the way Jesus loved us. And when we do, it will transform our lives!
With great joy,
Tye Male
