The need for deliverance

Parson to Person
As a young person I set traps for muskrats. The idea of trapping anything is to put something that is appealing to the creature.
Once the creature commits to going after the desired item the trap is tripped trapping or holding the creature captive. At this point deliverance or death are the options left!
In 2 Corinthians 1:8-11 the Apostle Paul refers to how Paul and his missionary team faced such trouble that they “felt the sentence of death within themselves.” But Paul did not end there! He states plainly that this served the purpose of causing them not to trust in themselves BUT in God who raises the dead!
1 Corinthians 1:10 records Pauls powerful statement” who delivered us from so great a death, and does deliver us; in whom we trust that He will still deliver us..!”
Every believer needs this delivering power of God! We all needed to be delivered from sin! Jesus said” He who commits sin is a slave of sin.”
The moment we agreed with what God has said about us (all have sinned and come short of the glory of God and (the wages of sin is death) and received what He made available for us (the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus, He that has the Son has life and he that does not have the Son does not have life) were delivered from sin!
Paul talks about an ongoing deliverance as well. We all need to be delivered from the narcissistic giant within us!
From childhood the devil seeks to enslave us by suggesting we make ourselves the center of our existence — me, myself, and I! Being set free or delivered from selfish self-centered living is a lifelong journey! We as disciples are called to make living for Jesus and for others the center of our lives.
Paul affirms that God will deliver in the future as well! We as disciples of Jesus look forward to the day when we will be delivered from these aging bodies! The resurrection is our blessed hope!
Paul declares that death is the final enemy that Jesus will conquer completely when He
returns!
Have you experienced the delivering power of God? Are you still experiencing it? Are you holding onto the conviction that you will experience it?
Join me in declaring we need the delivering power of God!
