2024 Keokuk County 4-H Awards Night held

On Sunday, Oct. 27, 2024, the Keokuk County 4-H Awards Night was held at the Expo Fair Grounds in Sigourney. The award ceremony started with the Pledge of Allegiance and was hosted by the Keokuk County 4-H County Youth Council. The meal was a potluck with pulled pork and pulled chicken sandwiches sponsored by Wyffels Hybrids.
The Keokuk County 4-H hosted a canned good drive during awards night as a part of their community service project. They were able to collect 160 canned goods. These canned goods will be going to shelters in the area to assist with any needs they have.
Members of the 2024-2025 County Youth Council are Cael O’Rourke, Makenzie Belvel, Teagan Swearingen, Brayden Wood, Jolie Wehr, Tierney Greiner, Addie Tremmel, Brianna Belvel, Carley Clarahan, and Madison Fry.
Special 4-H volunteer awards were presented. Recipients of the Special 4-H Volunteer Awards each received an Award Brick. Each brick will have the recipient’s name and award received engraved on it and will be placed in the brick patio out front of the Extension Office.
2023-2024 Family of 4-H Award was presented to the Wood Family.
2023-2024 Friend of 4-H Award was presented to the Bair Family.
2023-2024 Partner in 4-H Award was presented to Wyffels Hybrids.
2023-2024 4-H Leader of the Year Award was presented to Brys and Mallary Snakenberg.
2023-2024 4-H Superintendent of the Year Award was presented to Anne Axmear.
Tina Frank was honored and recognized as this year’s inductee into the Iowa 4-H Hall of Fame at the Iowa State Fair, representing Keokuk County. Tina has supported the Keokuk County 4-H Program her whole life and has a club leader for 29 years.
Nathan Fritchen of the Keokuk County Farm Bureau presented awards to the top clubs for communications involvement. This year’s recipients were: first place to the Stick-To-It club; second place to the Patriotic Panthers club; and third place to the Riverside 4-H Club. The Club Communications Awards were sponsored by Keokuk County Farm Bureau.
4-H members who are presented with the following individual recognition awards must apply or be nominated for them. Their efforts are evaluated by the Keokuk County Extension Council. This year’s award winners were:
Outstanding 1st Year 4-H Member: Levi Voyles, Patriotic Panthers
Outstanding Junior 4-H Member: Beau Snakenberg, Stick-To-It
Junior Leadership Award: Maesyn Bain, Stick-To-It
Junior Citizenship Award: Jayde Snakenberg, Stick-To-It
