4-H County Council IJBBA Open Cattle Show grows to two shows for 2023
Mar. 9, 2023 9:49 am
Washington County 4-H County Council will be sponsoring an IJBBA sanctioned open cattle show on Saturday, April 22 at the Washington County Fairgrounds. This event is open to youth of all ages up to 21. To exhibit at this show, there are no requirements be a member of the IJBBA or a member of 4-H. However, members of the IJBBA will receive points. This is a great opportunity for youth to compete against youth from other counties, work more with their cattle, gain experience and have fun.
NEW for 2023, there will be two show rings. Participants will have the option to register for one or two shows. On this one day there will be two shows in two rings with two judges. Check-in will be from 7 a.m. - 9 a.m. The show will begin at 11:00 a.m. Entry fee is $35.00 per calf per show. Pre-registration is $30.00 per calf per show if registered by April 1st. Make checks payable to Washington County Extension Office, 2223 250th St. Washington, IA 52353. Supreme Champion will receive $350.00 and Reserve Champion will receive $250.00 for both market and breeding animals. All 1st-3rd place in each class will have cash awards.
Health papers are required on all animals. If intending to show in a breed division registration papers are required. Generators are recommended if working out of personal livestock trailers. Registration flyer and other show details can be found at https://tinyurl.com/SpringPreview23
In conjunction with this event there are other activities on the fairgrounds as well. The annual 4-H Pancake Breakfast will run from 7:00-10:30 a.m. in the lower level of Dallmeyer Hall on the fairgrounds. With the Southeast Iowa Draft Horse and Mule Association, 4-H members are invited to participate in the horse hitch clinic. Registration for that event can be found at https://tinyurl.com/4Hhorsedriving2023
