Ballots have been counted across the area, the votes have been unofficially tallied, giving a look at the likely winners and losers of the Nov. 7 elections.
Brighton
Brighton had six candidates racing to secure three seats on the city council. Ultimately, Chuck Emry, Dick Green, and Dave Pratt won voters over to oust incumbents Cathy Rich and Mary Smith, while denying a seat to Andrew Boone.
The contest was remarkably close. Although Emry enjoyed a comfortable front-runner status with 47 votes, he collected only nine more ballots than fourth-place finisher Cathy Rich.
Richland
In Richland, John Capps ran uncontested in the mayor’s race. He collected 126 votes to secure the position, giving the city a new mayor for the first time in over 15 years.
Seven names were on the ballot for city council, with all five incumbents running and two new candidates. Newcomer Steve Pfeifer had the most votes with 137, while Joseph Adrian also got on the council with 119. Incumbents Brei Beam, Michael Hadley, and David Balster were reelected, while Alisa Tolle and Kathy Brower were voted off.
Packwood
Doyle Allan Forsythe ran unopposed for mayor of Packwood, securing the title with 41 votes. The city had three council seats up for election, with Rita Eastman and Larry Johnson being the only names on the ballot for the positions. Eastman and Johnson will fill two of the seats, with the third going to a write-in candidate.
Ollie
In Ollie, Scott Vetter ran unopposed and was elected mayor with 17 votes. Keaton Philips was elected to the city council, while Justin W. Haile was elected to fill a vacancy.
Martinsburg
Mike Jasper ran unopposed as mayor and won with 10 votes. Elected to the city council were Leon Wickenkamp and Todd Moore.
Hedrick
The race for mayor in Hedrick had three names on the ballot. Robert Crawford won the position with 74 votes, while Tommy Smith received 45 and Dave Murray had 40. There were five candidates for the three city council positions. Elected to the Hedrick city council were Mike Mefford with 132, Dustin Griffiths with 92, and Jeremy Greiner with 70. Also running for council were Ethan Cernic, who received 70 votes, and JD Olinger, who received 49.
Pekin
In the director at-large race in the Pekin Community School District, incumbent Sherry Bemis won over Kyle Daniel Green with 398 to 198 votes. In the district one race, newcomer Michael Sieren ran unopposed and received 533 votes. In district two, incumbent Mike Davis received 509 votes to retain his position. In district four, Josh Arendt won with 333 votes over Shawn Echelberry with 265. The public measure MJ was passed with 512 yes votes to 82 no votes.
