Cardinal Pekin Dust Devils compete at state level

The Cardinal Pekin Dust Devils competed at the state level last Sunday, June 12.
Close to 3100 Iowa youth, from 4th grade through high school competed in the 2022 Iowa Scholastic Clay Target Program Trap Championships in Cedar Falls at the Iowa State Trapshooting Association Homegrounds. Over the six-day event, these athletes competed in over 4800 entries in trap, handicap, and doubles, resulting in over 775,000 competition targets being thrown. This is the largest youth shooting competition in Iowa and one of the largest in the nation.
Each competitor shot 8 rounds of 25 shots each, for a total of 200 shots. The Dust Devils had quite a few team members get a perfect 25 in one or more rounds. Levi Coleman and Johnathon Guiter each scored a perfect 25 in three rounds each; Arron Silver and Luke Enloe each scored 25 in two rounds; and Colton Zaputil, Korwin Brown, and Kaylee House each scored a perfect 25 in one round.
Competing at the JV level for the team was Korwin Hinshaw and Colton Zaputil. Of the 561 JV competitors, Hinshaw finished 161st and Zaputil finished 84th. Hinshaw scored 180 (24, 23, 21, 20, 21, 23, 25, 23) and Zaputil scored 186 (25, 24, 23, 24, 22, 21, 22, 25).
Teya Ebert and Kaylee House competed in the varsity girls’ division. Ebert finished 143rd out of 199 with a score of 161 (19, 21, 20, 21, 22, 21, 16, 21) and House finished 51st with 51 points (24, 24, 18, 25, 23, 24, 20, 24).
In the varsity boys’ division there were 982 competitors. Johnathon Guiter finished 101st with a score of 193 (23, 24, 24, 25, 24, 23, 25, 25). Arron Silvers was 120th with a score of 192 (22, 24, 24, 25, 24, 25, 24, 25). Finishing 136th was Luke Enloe with a score of 192 (24, 23, 25, 24, 24, 23, 24, 25). Ian Silvers scored 186 (22, 24, 24, 23, 24, 23, 23, 23) and finished 325th. Levi Coleman scored 186 (22, 23, 24, 24, 22, 23, 21, 25) and finished 333rd. Scoring 183 (22, 22, 23, 21, 24, 23, 24, 24) and finishing 404th was Alex Dix. Stephen Troxel finished 467th with a score of 182 (24, 23, 22, 24, 19, 25, 21, 24). Owen Rupe scored 175 (22, 21, 23, 24, 20, 21, 21, 23) and finished 643). Kaden McBeth scored 155 (16, 18, 21, 19, 22, 19, 19, 21) and finished 906th.
The varsity squad of Dix, Guiter, House, Ian Silvers, and Arron Silvers finished ranked 36th out of 173 squads; and the squad of Coleman, Enloe, McBeth, Rupe, and Troxel finished with a ranking of 100.
Some members of the team will be competing in the 2022 National Championship that will be held at the Cardinal Center in Marengo, Ohio July 12-15.
