SIGOURNEY, Iowa — 4-H Clover Kids showcased their gardening projects Tuesday, July 15 at the Keokuk County Expo Fair. 41 Clover Kids participated in the Clover Kids Planting Day and Gardener Fest. Clover Kids were able to choose from two different types of flowers, zinnia or marigold. The Clover Kids recorded the growth and care of their plant since Planting Day on April 13th and shared that information in the show ring at the Gardener Fest.
Every year, Keokuk County 4-H partners with our Keokuk County Master Gardeners for a Planting Day with our Clover Kids (Kindergarten-3rd grade) members. The Clover Kids Master Gardener Fest is an event where the Clover Kids engage with Master Gardeners, showcase their gardening projects, and learn about gardening. This is an opportunity for Clover Kids to get to work with plants and show what they learn along the way.
“This event has continued to grow each and every year since the start of doing it. It’s inspiring to see young kids so excited about gardening and learning from experienced Master Gardeners. Events like this really get kids into nature and learning by doing,” said Kelly Albert, Keokuk County Extension and Outreach County Director and Master Gardener Coordinator.
The following clover kids participated in Planting Day/Gardener Fest:
