Cross-country teams competing strong heading into second half of season

Pekin’s cross-country teams have stayed busy the past couple of weeks, with meets at Van Buren, Lynnville-Sully, and Luther College.
Van Buren County
Pekin’s cross-country teams ran in the Van Buren County Meet on Sept. 10.
The girls’ high school team finished third with 66 points. Danville won with 45, Davis County took second with 58, Mediapolis was fourth with 72, and Keokuk fifth with 84.
Chloe Glosser won the girls’ event with a time of 18:44.60. Abby Guise was the next Panther across the line, placing 11th in 22:28.92. Finishing 18th in 23:13.91 was Maddy Petrehn, while Renae Eubanks finished 24th in 23:56.40, Callie Deutschle was 26th in 24:30.83, and Breanna Drish finished 58th in 32:40.52.
Pekin’s high school boys’ team had a fourth-place finish with 77 points. Winning was Danville with 49, Mediapolis was second with 59, and Van Buren finished third with 66.
Cole Millikin and Mason Dahlstrom were the top runners for the Panthers, with Millikin taking eighth in 16:50.27 and Dahlstrom finishing ninth in 17:08.67. Lane Fariss was 12th in 17:44.82 and Sam Hall took 21st in 18:31.75. Brody Sobaski finished 31st in 19:46.0, Cloyd Conor finished 35th in 19:55.45, and Dylan Sobaski was 36th in 20:03.87. Hayden Miller finished 74th in 22:32.5, Clayton Harvey was 82nd in 24:09.39, and Liam Guise was 91st in 26:23.6.
Luther College
Pekin took their teams to the Luther All-American Invitational at Luther College on Saturday, Sept. 14.
In the girls’ race, Chloe Glosser was the top runner for Pekin, finishing seventh in 18:51.8. Abby Guise was the next Panther in, finishing 176th in 23:45.7. Maddy Petrehn finished 178th in 23:48.7, Callie Deutschle was 191st in 24:33.6, Renae Eubanks finished 203rd in 25:27.6, Brinley Phillips was 219th in 26:25.8, and Breanna Drish was 240th in 31:37.0.
In the boys’ race, Mason Dahlstrom was the first Panther to cross the line, finishing 73rd in 17:48.2. Cole Millikin finished 86th in 18:03.4, and Lane Fariss finished 139th in 19:00. Sam Hall took 177th in 20:04.9, Conor Cloyd was 210th in 21:45.6, Brody Sobaski was 221st in 22:52.2, Hayden Miller was 222nd in 22:53.8, Dylan Sobaski finished 224th in 22:57.3, and Liam Guise finished 235th in 24:21.3.
Lynnville-Sully
The Panther cross-country teams competed in the Lynnville-Sully meet last Thursday, Sept. 19. Both high school teams finished third and had the winning runner, with Chloe Glosser winning the girls’ race and Cole Millikin taking the boys’ race.
The girls’ team finished third with 62 points, only three points behind second-place Pella Christian. Lynnville-Sully won with 33, and Collins-Maxwell finished fourth with 64.
Chloe Glosser won the girls’ event with a time of 20:21.3. Maddy Petrehn was the next Panther to cross the line, taking 16th in 25:13.4, with Abby Guise close behind finishing 18th in 25:33.6. Brinley Phillips placed 23rd in 27:07.5, Renae Eubanks was 27th in 27:32.2, and Callie Deutschle was 35th in 30:54.7.
The Pekin high school boys’ team finished third with 59 points. Pella Christian took the win with 46, while host team Lynnville-Sully was second with 46. East Marshall finished fourth with 124, Collins-Maxwell was fifth with 124, HLV was sixth with 145, and North Mahaska finished seventh with 156.
Pekin’s Cole Millikin won the race with a time of 18:16.3, edging the Lynnville-Sully runner by 2.2 seconds. Also getting top 10 finishes for Pekin were Mason Dahlstrom in third in 18:37.4 and Lane Fariss in ninth in 19:25.1. Sam Hall had a 20th place finish in 20:33.3, while Brody Sobaski was 31st in 21:51.3. Dylan Sobaski was 36th in 22:18.0 and Conor Cloyd finished 43rd in 23:19.0. Also running for Pekin was Hayden Miller, who finished 54th in 25:17.4; Clayton Harvey, 61st in 26:11.7; Liam Guise, 68th in 28:31.1; and Wyatt Brown, 70th in 29:42.2.
Pekin’s middle school girls’ team finished second behind Pella Christian, with each team scoring 42. Collins-Maxwell was third with 58 and East Marshall finished fourth with 85.
Mya Glick was the top Pekin runner, taking fifth in 13:02. Scout Lock and Zoe Heisdorffer both had top 10 finishes, with Lock taking sixth in 13:25 and Heisdorffer finishing tenth in 13:59. Stella Dickey was close behind, taking 11th in 14:07. Bekah Zirkle finished 29th in 17:23, Reagan Wise was 33rd in 18:38, Haven Hensley was 35th in 19:20, and Zoey Denison finished 38th in 20:55.
Pekin had two runners in the middle school boys’ race. Landon Fariss finished third in 12:21.9 and Colton Harvey finished fourth in 12:55.1
