Van Buren County – Travelers seeking authentic rural charm, handmade goods, and wholesome family fun are invited to the 16th Annual J40 Farm Crawl, taking place Saturday, August 9, 2025, from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., along the scenic Highway J40 in the Villages of Van Buren County.
This unique self-guided tour weaves through a scenic 40-mile stretch of pastoral Iowa along the Historic Hills Scenic Byway, connecting a vibrant collection of farms, local artisans, and small businesses. Guests will enjoy hands-on experiences, local flavors, and a chance to slow down and connect with the people who grow, create, and craft with heart.
Highlights include:
· A hearty Amish breakfast served 8:00 a.m.–Noon at the Lebanon Amish School
· Farm tours featuring flowers, livestock, greenhouses, and fresh produce
· Horse-drawn wagon rides, live music, and artisan demonstrations
· Homemade treats including baked goods, cheese, mead, maple syrup, and honey
· A cozy Courtyard Market in downtown Keosauqua with local vendors offering handmade goods, herbal oils, jewelry, art, and more
Participating stops include community favorites like Bloom and Bark Farm, Milton Creamery, Miller’s Bakery, Broken Wheel Blooms, and Yoder’s Indian Creek Furniture, just to name a few. Each location brings its own flavor, history, and personality, offering a full day of discovery for visitors of all ages.
“The J40 Farm Crawl is more than just an event—it’s an invitation to experience the slower, sweeter side of Iowa,” said Emily Starnes, event co-coordinator and Executive Director of the Villages of Van Buren. “Whether you're drawn by the food, the flowers, or the peaceful pace, it’s a day to reconnect, enjoy local flavor, support local makers, and celebrate simple joys.”
This beloved annual tradition draws visitors from across the Midwest and is a shining example of rural Iowa hospitality and entrepreneurship.
Admission is free. Attendees are encouraged to bring cash for vendor purchases and come ready for a day of adventure, relaxation, and unforgettable small-town charm.
