Four amazing raptors visit the Richland Public Library
Jun. 16, 2022 12:08 pm
The Iowa Raptor Project, based in Iowa City, visited the Richland Public Library last Tuesday, June 7 as part of the library’s summer reading program. The Iowa Raptor Project currently has 17 raptors that it cares for, none of which can be released into the wild due to physical injuries or behavioral problems.
Everyone who attended learned interesting facts about the four visiting birds: a Great Horned Owl, a Harris’s Hawk, a Screech Owl and an American Kestrel. After each bird was presented, participants were able to ask questions about the birds.
All the birds, except the Harris’s hawk, are found in Iowa. The Harris’s hawk is found in desert habitats in the southwestern states. Each bird has its own unique living and hunting styles.
This program was made possible by a grant from the Keokuk County Community Endowment Foundation.
