Iowa State University Extension and Outreach for Jefferson County held many summer programs for youth during the month of July. Summer Day Camps have been a tradition for many years. Three were held this summer- Summer Celebrations, Fit and Fun Kids, and Kids in the Kitchen. These were led by our three Summer Interns- Katelyn Adam, Piper Miller, and Taylor Miller.
Taylor led Summer Celebrations, celebrating many fun summer traditions, such as county fair, the Fourth of July, gardening, and camping. Piper led the Fit and Fun Kids Day Camp, covering topics such as eating food from each food group, exercise, and heart health. The Kids in the Kitchen Day Camp was led by Katelyn. This camp taught kids how to make French Toast, Walking Tacos, and Fruit Salad.
In addition to Summer Day Camps, the interns also led a STEM program at the Fairfield Public Library each Monday afternoon in July. They utilized a variety of activities to cover Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics topics. This was part of this summer’s library reading program theme Level Up at Your Library. The interns planned activities for each Thursday afternoon for the library’s Art and Connect.
Jefferson County Extension also assisted with the Fairfield Public Library and Jefferson County Farm Bureau’s Dairy Days and Conservation Story Times in July. Jefferson County Extension appreciates the partnerships with the Fairfield Public Library and Jefferson County Farm Bureau for programming.
