The 2024—2025 4-H program year was one of tremendous growth, renewed energy, and new opportunities for Keokuk County 4-H. From the reestablishment of two Clover Kids clubs to launching new initiatives and welcoming dozens of new members, the local 4-H program continues to thrive in its mission to grow future leaders.
One of the highlights of the year was the successful return of two Clover Kids clubs — Keota Clover Kids and Tri-County Clover Kids — providing youth in grades K — 3 with hands-on learning experiences and a strong foundation in the 4-H program. With a surge in participation, Keokuk County 4-H welcomed approximately 75 new members, including around 50 new Clover Kids (kindergarten through 3rd graders) and 25 new 4-H members in grades 4 and up.
“We’re seeing a lot of excitement and momentum in Keokuk County 4-H,” said Youth Coordinator Ashley Yedlik. “This year has truly shown us what’s possible when our communities, volunteers, and youth come together.”
The program also reached new audiences thanks to the launch of a non-traditional 4-H Club called “Choose Your Adventure,” made possible by support from an Iowa 4-H Foundation Grant. This flexible-format club offered new workshops and experiences, both locally and regionally, allowing more youth to engage with 4-H in ways that fit their interests and schedules.
The focus on innovative programming didn’t stop there. This year, 4-H Ricochet, a middle school leadership program, was offered during the school day to Tri-County 7th and 8th graders, helping students build leadership, communication, and decision-making skills in a classroom setting.
The future looks especially bright, with over 30 Clover Kid “graduates” (third-grade members) completing their final year in Clover Kids and preparing to transition into traditional 4-H clubs. “These kids have had a great start in Clover Kids, and we can’t wait to see the amazing things they’ll do as full 4-H members,” Yedlik said.
To cap off a successful year, Keokuk County 4-H also introduced its first-ever county scholarship program, awarding two scholarships to graduating members. This milestone marks a growing commitment to supporting youth not just through hands-on learning, but also as they take their next steps toward higher education and careers.
With more programs, more members, and more community engagement than ever, Keokuk County 4-H is heading into the 2025—2026 year with renewed purpose and excitement.
“4-H is truly alive and growing in Keokuk County,” Yedlik added. “We’re so proud of what our youth accomplished this year and can’t wait to see what’s ahead.”
