SIGOURNEY — The Keokuk County Expo Fair’s show ring was alive with excitement July 19 as four youth competitors stepped into the spotlight for the inaugural Supreme Showmanship Show — a new event that’s already earning its place as a fan favorite in the making.
Inspired by Johnson County’s version of the event, coordinators Anne Axmear and Tiffany Tremmel brought the vision to life in Keokuk County, offering senior-level 4-H showmen one more shot to shine in the spotlight — and it didn’t disappoint.
“We are thankful for Anne and Tiffany’s hard work for making this show come to life,” said Kelly Albert, Keokuk County Extension and Outreach County Director. “This gives our previous senior showmanship winners a chance to compete again and showcase their skills. It’s not just about winning — it’s about growth, leadership, and recognizing the dedication these young people have poured into their projects.”
The event brought together the winners of the senior showmanship classes in beef, sheep, swine, and goats. But this wasn't just about having the best animal — it was about showmanship. Competitors were judged on how well they handled, presented, and connected with their animals, focusing on presence, control, and confidence in the ring.
The judge wasn’t just watching the animals — they were watching the 4-H members themselves. From eye contact and pace to sportsmanship and poise, every move mattered.
After a competitive afternoon full of grit and grace, Izzy Heisdorffer emerged as the first-ever Supreme Showman, earning top honors and setting a high bar for years to come.
The event wouldn’t have been possible without the generous support of its sponsors: Brenneman Pork, Clarahan Trucking, Fry Family, Keokuk County Swine Salute, and Ryan and Lana Reed — all of whom believe in the mission of 4-H and the importance of investing in local youth.
