Aug. 25, 2022 4:39 pm
A team of local high school students competed in the Future Problem Solving International Conference in June and earned two top honors. In the Global Issues Problem Solving written competition, the home-schooled team of Mary Fritz (Brighton), Jacob Newton (Iowa City), Ariana Parsons (Wayland), and Samuel Snyder (Richland) earned ninth place from among 57 teams from Australia, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Pakistan, Singapore, Thailand, Turkey, and the United States. The topic of the competition was Antibiotic Resistance, and the team created and described a new treatment for antibiotic resistant disease in plant agriculture.
After the written portion of the competition, teamwork continued as the foursome planned and performed an oral presentation to demonstrate the effectiveness of its best solution. The team’s oral presentation placed fourth worldwide.
The team was coached by Paula Lawson-Moore.
