The Packwood Library and Polk-Packwood Fire Department had a successful day as 140 signed the guest book for the open house and safety day that was held. Chapter F, TTT has donated a paperback book rack, a Rand McNally World Atlas, and the Childcraft Encyclopedia. Mrs. Charles Cowen presented the library with a dictionary and stand and many other books. The Veterans of Packwood donated an American flag and an Iowa flag and $400 in funds. The Pekin Panther football team kept their perfect record by rolling over Harmony 66-0. The Panthers scored at will, with a total of 456 yards and 325 yards in ground attack. Pekin scored on the first play from scrimmage following the opening kickoff as Mark Hendrickson scrambled 65 yards to the goal and booted the first of seven straight conversions. Mark also got the next two counters in quick succession, one on a 27-yard pass play thrown by quarterback Steve Allison and one on a 45-yard run. Dick Lankford capped the next Pekin march with a seven-yard run and center Alan Wolf added two bonus points when he tackled a Harmony runner in the end zone for a safety. Another Allison to Hendrickson pass completed the first period scoring, this one for 37 yards. The Panthers struck twice in the second frame, first on a run by Hendrickson and the second on a pass from reserve quarterback John Mosinski to Andy Sauer. Pekin reserves saw most of the second half action. Opening the third quarter was linebacker David Clark when he scored by grabbing a Rocket fumble and racing 40 yards to the goal. Mosinski scored on a quarterback sneak later in the period and Mark Leppert ran the conversion. Leading the Pekin defense were Andy Sauer, Allen Wolf, Robbie Mitchell, and Mark Leppert, all with six tackles. D.A. Fye also helped the defensive cause by blocking a punt.
