Last week’s activities found Pekin’s softball girls picking up three more victories, running their winning streak to 15 and gaining for them spot number eight in the latest state softball ratings. Falling to the undefeated Pantherettes the past week were Cardinal (13-0), Sigourney (19-6), and Tri-County (17-3). Nancy Hendrickson continued her fine hurling and again was credited with all the wins. Nancy’s season mark is now 15-0, and her career record is 99-28. A victory this week will put her up for admission to the Girls Union’s “100” Charmed Circle, an honor achieved thus far by only about a half-dozen pitchers.
The Cardinal game was much closer than the 13-0 score indicates. Cathy Schultz sparked the three-run second inning with a clutch single that drove in the initial tally. Karen Snow provided the feature blow in the final frame, a bases-loaded triple. The JV girls licked Cardinal 13-2, as Karen hurled a no-hitter and Deb Hogan led the offensive with three hits. Judy Nordyke and Linda Day contributed two singles each.
