Mr. and Mrs. James Muntz of Packwood announce the engagement of their daughter, Deborah Sue, to Bill Conner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Conner of Libertyville. Miss Muntz is a 1973 graduate of Pekin High School. Conner is a 1969 graduate of the Fairfield Community High School and is employed by the Dexter Company of Fairfield. An October wedding is planned.
Mrs. Helen Talley, 62, passed away at the Jefferson County Hospital on Wednesday, August 15. She had been a hospital patient for the past month and in failing health for the past four years. Surviving is her husband, Ralph; two sons Max Lean and Larry James; two granddaughters; and a stepmother.
Paul Chute, son of Mrs. Doris Chute and the late Rev. Harold Chute entered the University Children’s Hospital in Iowa City on Monday of this week for further surgery on his leg. The Chutes formerly lived here when Rev. Chute was minister at the Richland Friends Church.
Miss Mary Hoskins, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Chalmers Hoskins of Richland and Mr. Tim Dunaway, son of John Dunaway of Ollie and Mrs. Ellen Dunaway of Richland were united in marriage in a candlelight ceremony at the Woolson Friends Church on Aug. 11, 1973.
Mr. and Mrs. Norman Smith and family of Alaska arrived Sunday for a visit with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Smith and his brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Russell Yoder and family.
Mrs. Matilda Gorman is staying with Mrs. Nell Kent while Mrs. Ruth Reighard is on vacation. She accompanied her daughter-in-law, Mrs. Eva Reighard, to Missouri to visit Mr. and Mrs. Richard Reighard and family. She will then go home with Mrs. Eva Reighard to Coon Rapids. Later, they will visit Mr. and Mrs. John Reighard and family and they will bring her home.
Ray Morgan, Judy Hayden, Billy and Sue spent the weekend with Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bond and family at the Red Rock Lake. Mr. and Mrs. Russell Bond went on Monday to spend a few days there.
W.H. Bond, Russell Bond, and Mrs. Doyle Hartnell were in Iowa City Friday for their checkups. Mrs. Sadie Bond and Mrs. Russell Bond accompanied them.
Mr. and Mrs. Junior Snyder and family attended a surprise party for Mrs. Don Hoekstra, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Pat Hoekstra of Fairfield.
Nick Adam, son of Mr. and Mrs. Elmer “Bud” Adam was one of three seminarians to be accepted into the candidacy for diaconate and presbyterate (priesthood) in the Davenport diocese.
Otto Everett Ruggles, 62, of rural Ollie, was killed Friday, Aug. 17, 1973, at 11 a.m. in a farm tractor accident. Authorities said the accident occurred on a Keokuk County road near Ollie as Ruggles was cutting the road siding with a mower attached to the tractor. The tractor rolled over into the ditch, pinning Ruggles underneath.
