Korwin Hinshaw drives winner: Jeffie D. Specker, Mayview, MO, had one of his richest days ever at the Missouri State Fair Wednesday, with his entries Dutchland and Beautiful Beau, winning more than $2300.
Dutchland came home with straight heat wins in the Missouri-owned Trot in times of 2:07 and 2:05, won the Governor’s Cup and pocketed $1500 with driver Korwin Hinshaw at the reins.
In addition, Specker’s entry in the Missouri-owned Pace, Beautiful Beau, netted him more than $850, after coming back from a fall near the starting line in the opening heat.
Although High Changer, owned and driven by Alva Tipton of Fillmore, Missouri, captured the trophy in the pacing division, Beautiful Beau stole the show.
The three-year-old bay mare fell as the horses approached the starting line in the opening heat of the pace, when she tried to run in her hobbles. Following a number of anxious moments, Hinshaw, who also drove Specker’s entry in the Missouri-owned Trot, got the sulky unhooked and gave Beautiful Beau a brief walk before rehitching the sulky and joining the field for the recall.
She finished fourth in the heat, but came back in the second heat to win first place money.
