Prenuptial Shower Held Friday Night — Miss Charlotte Forinash was guest of honor as a prenuptial shower in the Methodist Church social rooms Friday evening before her marriage to Richard Downey took place Saturday evening. She was assisted with her gifts by former classmates. Mrs. Forinash and Mrs. Downey, mothers of the young couple, assisted at the serving table, which was beautifully laid with silver and flower arrangements in the bride’s chosen colors. Hostess committee was the following ladies: Mrs. C.B. McCracken, Mrs. Frank Bottger, Mrs. Howard Thomas, Mrs. Bernard Ulin of Des Moines, Mrs. Dale Sasseen, Mrs. Clarence Greiner, Mrs. Irene Baker, Mrs. Carl Underwood and Mrs. Howard Kessel, both of Ollie. Mrs. Kermit Oswalt, Mrs. Charles Widner, Mrs. Junior Starr, Mrs. Cedric Wolcott of Iowa City, and Miss Betty Ruth Fritchen.
Forinash, Downey wed — Miss Charlotte Forinash and Richard Roy Downey were united in marriage at a candlelight ceremony at the Richland Methodist Church on Saturday evening at eight o’clock. The Rev. E. Edward Philgreen read the double ring ceremony in the presence of the immediate families, before the altar decorated with arrangements of peonies. Mr. and Mrs. Leo V. Forinash and Mr. and Mrs. Roy Downey, all of Richland, are the parents of the bride and bridegroom. Mrs. Philgreen sang “The Lord’s Prayer” accompanied by Mrs. Charles Ulin. The bride, presented in marriage by her father, was attired in a white sheath dress with lace overlay, with detachable net overskirt. She wore pink accessories, and carried a white Bible with orchid corsage. Mrs. Ben Young, Jr., was her sister’s only attendant. She wore a frock of yellow polyester fabric with unpressed pleated skirt, set-in cummerbund, and three bows down the back of the bodice. Her accessories were while and her corsage was of white carnations. Bradley Young served Mr. Downey as best man, and Tom Robertson of Cedar Rapids seated the guests. The mothers of the young couple wore pink carnation corsages. A reception was held at the home of the bride following the ceremony with thirty guests present. Roses and lighted white tapers surrounded the tiered wedding cake which was topped with miniature bride and bridegroom. The table was covered with orchid cloth and white net. Mrs. Young and Mrs. Raymond Miller, sisters of the bridal couple, served the coffee and cake. Miss Bernadine Baker and Mrs. Tom Robertson had the guest book and gift table. Mrs. Bernard Ulin of Des Moines, Mrs. Frank Bottger, and Mrs. C.B. McCracken were hostesses for the reception. Guests of honor were the grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Floyd Smith, and Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Downey. The young couple left for their home at Cut Bank, Montana, where Mr. Downey is stationed with the Air Force.
Home Talent Wednesday — Band Plays. First of a summer program of band concerts and home talent contests was held last night in the Richland town park. Next Wednesday another band concert and home talent program will be featured according to Tom Duden, director. Home talent program included numbers by a trumpet trio of Freddy George, Bill Allen, and Ronnie Townsend with Mrs. Kenneth Steinbeck as accompanist. Mary Beth Adam appeared in a vocal number, accompanied by her sister, Donna. Marsha Stagers was in a tap dance number; and a boys quartet of Keith Thomas, Hal Rusk, Larry Egbert, and Mel Maeder rounded out the talent program.

A very distinguished crew was on hand to give Jeff Wolcott his third degree. There were no less than nine past or present Grand Lodge officers, present to assist in putting on the work. There were 34 brothers present representing eleven lodges. Jeff was an excellent candidate and will provide new energy that is needed in all community-minded organizations.
A good crowd was on hand Sunday, Jan. 12, to witness the installation of officers for 1992 to Justice Lodge #230. Brother Wain Sloan of Fairfield assisted Brother Elmer Lough in the exercise. Jerry Whitehurst was installed as Master of the Lodge. One of Brother Jerry’s goals for this year will be to start a local scholarship fund to benefit Pekin’s graduating seniors. Other officers for 1992 include Phil Northup, SW; Clair Chacey, JW; Dale Ingle, Treasurer; Bill Northup, Secretary; Francis Fye, Chaplin; Jim Wolcott, Marsh; Dick Andeway, SD; Jeff Wolcott, JD; Wayne Hadley, SS; Merlin Peterson, JS; Gib Schrepfer, Tyler.
Mr. and Mrs. Dennis Eastman entertained Mr. and Mrs. Bill Dvorak, Mr. and Mrs. Tim Parsons, Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Porch, and Pastor Ned and Gay Van Nostrand for a supper and party on New Year’s Eve.
Mr. and Mrs. Sam Ritchie attended a New Year’s Eve party at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Lanny Brinning. Others present were Mr. and Mrs. Richard Bond, Mr. and Mrs. Milford Watson, Mr. and Mrs. Gary Oswalt, Mr. and Mrs. Jim Cummings, and Mr. and Mrs. Mel Maeder.
Harold and Kate Schrader visited his brother Thomas and Bonnie Schrader near Dallas and is sister Oleta and David Roland near Harvey on Sunday.
Ike and Jo Chambers of Packwood, attended a surprise 50th anniversary noon luncheon on Sunday, Jan. 5 at the Antioch Church north of Fairfield. The couple being honored was Howard and Marcelle Lucas of Richland.
