Mrs. Paul Rynor entertained the Ladies of the Happy Hour Club with a Halloween party Wednesday p.m. The meeting was called to order by the president, Mrs. Henry Pickard. Roll call was answered by local news. The guests were Miss Clara Borkoski, Mrs. Clarence Grosscup of Brighton; Mrs. Florence and Margaret Rynor and Miss Edity Montgomery of East Pleasant Plain. Mrs. H.C. Messer carried off the prize in the corn and bean contest. The Ladies enjoyed the mysteries of Halloween party: Miss Edith Montgomery, Miss Margaret Rynor, assisted the hostess in serving a delicious luncheon. The next meeting will be with Mrs. Frank Chalupa.
The Russell Parsons home was the scene Monday evening of a very pleasant evening when the members of the Loyal Twelve and their families met for a Halloween masquerade party. We were a funny odd looking bunch until our masks were removed. Miss Lucille Dana won the prize for the best concealment of her identity. The house was decorated with black cats, bats, witches, and jack-o'-lanterns. The witches room was an upstairs room decorated with straw, corncobs, etc. where the ghost took us all to meet and shake hands with the witch (Queen of the evening) and the witches hearty handshake made the blood in each ones hands tingle. The entertainment committee Mrs. C.C. Dana and Mrs. Russell Parsons entertained us royally and kept us quite busy all evening with games, contests and stunts. The refreshment committee, Ralph Switzer and R.A. Spalding, served filled sandwiches, pumpkin pie, and whipped cream and coffee which was much enjoyed.

Father L. J. Bergthold has been appointed as resident pastor for the Mother Cabrini Catholic Church. He will remain as assistant to Father Paul C. Wetzstein, who has the two parishes, Richland and St. Joseph’s of East Pleasant Plain. Father Bergthold was born at Valeria, Iowa, and alter the family moved to West Point, where they still reside. After his ordination, he served as assistant pastor at Mt. Mathias Church in Muscatine, Sacred Heart Church, Newton, and at St. Joseph’s Church, East Pleasant Plain. His aunt, Mrs. Barbara Waschman of West Point, came last week to keep house for him. They moved into the rectory last Thursday. The rectory has been completely remodeled, and more work will be done as time permits. The kitchen has been modernized with built-in cupboards, walls, and floor refinished. Two complete bathrooms have been added and an automatic oil furnace installed. All walls, woodwork and floors are refinished. The work has been done by the two pastors, and men and women of the parish. The architecture of the house has not been altered to speak of, just repaired and refurnished. Built at the turn of the century it has some of the most beautiful wood in floors and woodwork that is to be found. The house is in very sound condition, and makes a beautiful rectory. The members of Mother Cabrini parish are very happy to have a resident priest, and happy to have Father Bergthold, with his engaging personality and fondness for children. He will be a great help to Father Wetzstein, who is very well liked by both the congregation and other folks in Richland.
