Chris and Cindy Henderson and three daughters of Packwood lost their home and all possessions to a firer last Tuesday. Area fire departments responded to the blaze but were unable to save the home and contents. The Hendersons are temporarily staying in a hotel until they can find a home to rent.
Sandy and Dwight Williams are pleased to announce the engagement and upcoming wedding of their daughter, Renee of Williamsburg, to Curtis Riess, son of James Riess of Conroy and the late Nancy Riess. Renee is a graduate of Pekin High School, while Curtis graduated from Williamsburg High School. Both are graduates of Kirkwood Community College and are employed at Heartland Cooperative in Conroy, Iowa. A June 12 wedding is planned at St. Mary Church in Keota.
Angela Maeder of Richland was honored at a special ceremony for health care professionals in March. The presentation took place at the State Historical Building in Des Moines.
Karen Morgan, rural mail carrier for the Richland Post Office, was recently honored for her 30 years of service by the United States Postal Service. Karen began her career as a substitute carrier in 1974, and became the regular carrier in 1982.

Tim Breka of Ottumwa has been chosen to fill the vacancy at the Union Bank and Trust and will replace Al Pettit as Vice President in the Richland office. Pettit’s last day as Vice President was April 12, before his retirement.
Mr. and Mrs. Donald Tucker of Richland celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on April 23. Their family hosted and open house at the Richland Lion’s Building. They were married in 1939 in Muscatine. They have three children, Ronald Tucker, Carolyn Pierson, and Kathy Davis.
The Rev. Robert Busher, while remaining pastor of St. Thomas More Church in Iowa City, also has been named diocesan director of vocations, effective June 1. Busher will serve an area that included Fairfield and Richland.

Judy Ann Krier and Terry Wayne Book were married at St. Francis Cabrini Church at Richland. Rev. Glenn Feugen officiated at the Mass.
Two Pekin High School students, Debbie Gillam of Ollie and Lisa Heisdorffer of Farson, were winners in the District Iowa Special Olympics held at Bettendorf. Debbie placed third in the softball throw and participated in the 50 yard dash. Lisa won first place in the 50 yard dash and participated in the long jump.
What has been known as the Richland Café for years will now be known as the “Stage Coach Inn” and will be open for business on April 23. Owner and operator Harriett Rodlich has made quite a few changes in the building. She has remodeled the entire ground floor and decorated it around its name.
April 1959
Richland Independent school district has accepted the resignations of Kenneth Goodwin, principal, and Mrs. Florence Innis, the commercial teacher. President Howard Thomas stated that both Mr. Goodwin and Mrs. Innis have accepted positions in the Keosauqua school system. All other teachers have signed renewal contracts for the coming school year at an average of 7% advance in salary. Mr. John H. King, superintendent, was offered a new 3-year contract at an increase of $500 yearly salary.
Don J. Adams is now the sole owner and publisher of The Sigourney Review, following completion of a business transaction in which he purchased the interest of Cotton Etter in the newspaper. They had been partners in the Review since 1953. Mr. Adams has worked in the Review office since 1933. He had been managing editor for several years prior to becoming a partner in the enterprise.
