Lake Darling State Park’s formal rededicated was held Wednesday, Sept. 17, 2014, during a ceremony at the Cottonwood shelter. The program was a series of brief remarks from individuals who had a role in the $12 million renovation of the lake and park that began more than a decade ago. Filmmaker Sam Koltinsky provided an update on his documentary; ‘Darling is Back.’ The park reopened in late July after being closed for renovation since 2010.
Congratulations to Joe and Kerry Hadley on the birth of another granddaughter. Olivia Rose Hadley was born this past week to Tom and Christine Hadley.
Jr, Ann, and Dan Snyder; and Tom Hoekstra and Renee Pfeifer attended the visitation for Chuck Myers Sept. 10 and the funeral Sept. 11.
Larry Morgan was home for the day on September 13. Larry and Karen had lunch at Loriann’s.
Ron Green of Phoenix spent last weekend with Bill and Sue Gill. On Sunday, Sept. 14, Rachel Green; Blaine, Amber, and Allie Gill; and Ed Green went to Fairfield with the Gill’s for supper. They all celebrated Ron’s birthday.
Robert and Carrol Shelangoski attended the wedding of her niece Stephany Garica to Carlos Olvera. The wedding was held on Saturday, Sept. 6 in Moline, Illinois. The reception was held in East Moline.
Gerald and Rosemary Pacha attended the visitation and funeral of her uncle Walter Wehr. They were held in Omaha, Nebraska on Sept. 5 and 6.
On Sept. 5, Winifred Fritz was visited by cousin James Arndt of Texarkana, Texas. They enjoyed dining out before he left to visit his son Carl in Iowa City.
Winifred was visited Sept. 6 by daughter Lucy Dietzman with Brendan of Keosauqua, Malcolm was attending a tractor pull in Stockport.
J.D. Hollingsworth of Packwood and Bridget Hollingsworth of Fairfield enjoyed the afternoon and evening of Sept. 7 visiting their grandma, Winifred Fritz. After the evening meal, they were joined by their mother Mary and Joel Boatright of Fairfield. The Boatright’s provided homemade ice cream.
Caryl Smith was visited Sept. 5 through Sept. 9 by her cousin Madilyn and Claude Kasanski of Madison, Wisconsin. On Sept. 6, they were joined for the evening meal by Caryl’s son Nelson and Jacklyn of Brighton. Also present were Judith Johnson of Fairfield and B.J. Holden of California, Jacklyn’s mother and aunt.
On Sept. 7, Caryl, Claude, and Madilyn enjoyed the Polishville dance. They traveled to Burlington on the 8th to enjoy dining out and sightseeing.
Pat Remington spent Sept. 8 through the 14th in Windsor Heights due to the death of her mother, Dorothy Marie Babberl.
A baby shower was held for Nolan and Kelli Symmonds of Kalona on September 13. It was held at a church in Iowa City and sponsored by the other members. Special guests attending included his mother Jane Symmonds of Fairfield, his sister Rachael with Coraline of Nevada, and his grandma Winifred Fritz of Brighton.
Joel and Mary Boatright with Bridget Hollingsworth of Fairfield enjoyed the afternoon and evening of Sept. 14 with her mother Winifred Fritz.
Pat Remington, with daughter Angela and Tony Garmoe of Mt. Pleasant, was in the Des Moines area on September 17. They met her sisters, her daughter Brandy, their brother-in-law Steve, and niece Selena in Adel at the VA cemetery for the interment of their parents, John and Dorothy Babberl.
Sam and Irene Ritchie hosted their annual fall get together on September 21. Everyone enjoyed the horse rides, wagon rides, bike rides, and great food. The evening ended with a campfire where they all enjoyed the cool weather.
Condolences to the family of Kareen Jackson Walters. Kareen was a 1975 graduate of Pekin and was from the Farson-Packwood area.
Ron and Rachel Green, Bill and Sue Gill had a barbecue at Ed Green’s home September 18. Donna and Garry Sievers stopped for a visit after supper.
