Pekin’s Homecoming game led to a 27-12 victory over Belle Plaine. The Panthers remain undefeated in district play at 4-0, and 5-1 overall. The Panthers are tied for first place in the district with Montezuma. The postgame activities consisted of the crowning of the Homecoming King and Queen. The Homecoming Royal Court consisted of Jody Beaumont, daughter of Mark and Jerry Wiggens of Packwood; Chris Eklofe, daughter of Gerald and Lola Eklofe of Hedrick; Andrea Fink, daughter of Mike and Marsha Fink of Hedrick; Niki Myers, granddaughter of Richard and Ardyce Vittetoe of Hedrick; Queen Sarah Tolle, daughter of Steve and Elaine Tolle of Hedrick; King Nathan Eighmy, son of Mark and Carol Eighmy of Packwood; Quentin Harbison, son of James Harbison and Susan Courtney of Richland; Casey Randall, son of Clancy and Janice Randall of Martinsburg; Shannon Reschly, grandson of Roger Lee Cavin of Ollie; Derek Stephens, son of Tony Stephens and Patty Stephens of Richland.
Enjoying a family get-together Oct. 7 at the home of Richard and Beverly Underwood were Dr. and Mrs. Michael Morris, Bret, Adam and Alissa of Tampa, Florida; Mr. and Mrs. Doug Morris and Amanda of St. Paul, Minnesota; Phil and Darlene Morris of Cedar Rapids; Alan, Becky, Megan and Sarah Wilcox of Carlisle; and Jane Fauth. Bruce underwood of Wisconsin was unable to attend but came this week to spend some time with his parents.
Sam and Irene Ritchie hosted a family gathering on Tuesday evening for supper. Those present were Betty Close of San Diego, California, a cousin; Erma Ritchie and Sandra Shalin of Pella; and Jim and Michelle Derwin of Waterloo.
Stephen and Angela Rehm were guests of their grandfather, Warren Rehm, in Cantril overnight Friday and Saturday. On Saturday evening Max and Melody Rehm joined them for supper, celebrating Melody’s birthday.
Leora Day, Naomi Lock, Iola Parsons, Irene Ritchie, Nellie Zear, and Marjorie McCracken attended the bridal shower for Michelle Day and Jason Wonderlich at the Christian Church in Packwood.
Tim and Nancy Parsons and Phillip were Saturday evening supper guests in the Randy Blaylock home in Hedrick.
On Oct. 16, Ike and Jo Chambers were guests for lunch at the home of their daughter and family, Jerry and Kathy Allison, Sami and Kori of Libertyville. Cake and ice cream were served honoring Kori’s birthday.
1984
Five people were injured in a two-car accident near Ottumwa Oct. 8, 1984. The Iowa State Patrol reported that Alvie Harding, age 78, of Eldon had stopped his car at an intersection of Highway 34 and a Wapello County Road about a quarter mile east of Ottumwa. Police think Harding drove into the path of a car driven by Deanna McBeth, age 29, of Richland shortly before 4 p.m. Harding and passenger Ruth Harding, 74, also of Eldon, were treated at Ottumwa Hospital and released. In the other vehicle, McBeth and her passengers, Jessica McBeth, 3, and Orina Chalupa, 63, both of Richland were taken to Ottumwa Hospital, where they were treated and released.
Following the performances of many entertaining skits, the Pekin Homecoming coronation took place. Before an enthusiastic crowd of about 250 people, Danielle Monaghan Fankhauser was crowned the 1984 Homecoming Queen. She is the daughter of Jerrie and Dennis Monaghan of Richland. Her escort was Tony Clubb. The other queen candidates were Sheila Hoover, Cindy Seivers, Kathy Snow, and Janette Williams.
