Dena Morrissey, Vice President and Customer Service Manager of Iowa State Bank & Trust Company in Fairfield, has announced the addition of a new Personal Banker to the team. Corinna Wonderlich joined the staff on Oct. 1 and will assist customers with their deposit accounts and other banking needs.
Corinna comes to Iowa State Bank & Trust Company from Pilot Grove Savings Bank in Packwood where she spent the past 17 years. During her tenure she became a cornerstone to the bank with her outstanding customer service always radiating to the patrons. Dena Morrissey commented, “We are very fortunate to have Corinna join our banking family. She brings a wealth of experience and tremendous enthusiasm to Iowa State Bank.”
On Oct. 11, Bridget Hollingsworth of Fairfield visited her grandma Winifred Fritz. She did some garden work for Winifred while visiting. They were joined be Lucy Dietzman, Malcolm and Brendan of Keosauqua. Lucy planted a new strawberry bed for her mother and did some yard work.
Winifred was visited Oct. 12 by daughter Jane Symmonds of Fairfield. Winifred received a belated birthday call on Oct. 14 from her cousin in Sperry, Iowa.
Pat Remington, with son Travis of Ainsworth, attended the funeral for her brother-in-law Gerald Remington. It was held in Cedar Rapids on October 11.
Jason Roberts was in Des Moines Oct. 12 and 13 for work-related training sessions.
Caryl Smith left for Clearbrook, Minnesota on October 9. Her son Nelson of Brighton drove her half way to meet her son David. She stayed with David and Diane in Clearbrook. They were joined by David and Diane’s sons, Blair and Heather and family of Aberdeen, South Dakota; Cory and Sherry and family of Fosston, Minnesota. Caryl returned home on Oct. 13 by meeting Nelson halfway again.
Susan Adrian, daughter Grace, and husband Luke of Des Moines were home for the weekend. Jerry and Bonnie got plenty of time to spoil their granddaughter.
A huge turnout for the Pink Party October 18. The food and auction were complete successes. The money raised was for the Breast Cancer Society of Keokuk County.
Bill and Sue Gill, Greg and Kathy Brower, Gary and Bev Neel went to Washington for supper October 18. After supper, everyone returned to the Gill home for desserts. On Sunday the Gills and Duane and Linda Copeland went on a road trip to Muscatine and Davenport to see the trees. They stopped in Frytown to visit Carroll and Wilma Copeland.
The Happy Hatters went to Kalona on October 21. They ate breakfast and then went onto the pumpkin patch in Iowa City. Everyone enjoyed lunch at Bob’s Uncle before returning home.
Pekin junior Tayler Winn, age 16 of Fairfield, competed in the 2015 Miss Iowa USA pageant in Newton on Oct. 11 and 12. Out of several hundred applicants, she was chosen as a semi- finalist. Ranking in the top 15, she received a trophy and a college scholarship. This is an annual event and consist of three proportional segments: an interview, evening gown, and swimsuit competition. Tayler appreciates all of her friends and family who supported her throughout this journey.
Pekin’s middle school cross-country teams traveled to Centennial High School in Ankeny Saturday to take part in the Middle School State cross-country meet. Over 1200 middle schoolers competed, broken into the four classes that their high schools compete in. Pekin’s teams competed well, with both the seventh and eighth grade girls’ teams placing first, the eighth grade boys’ team placing third, and the seventh grade boys’ team placing second. This marks the sixth time Pekin has won the girls’ state championship since the state meet began. Pekin’s Colten Glosser won the seventh-grade race in a time of 12:03. Pekin seventh grade girls: 5. With one game to go in the regular season, Pekin is looking for a perfect 9-0 record. The Panthers faced WACO last Friday night, where they continued their undefeated season with a 48-2 win. Senior Tanner Adam rushed for 117 yards and two touchdowns in six carries. Adam also had two receptions for forty yards, and led the team in tackles with nine including one sack. Chase Copeland rushed eight times for 105 yards and two touchdowns, and had two receptions for 23 yards. Zack Buller rushed four times for 13 yards and one touchdown. Trevor Northup carried the ball three times for eight yards, while Chase Eckley rushed two times, and Jeff Brain, Skyler Juhl, and Christian Wittrock each carried the ball once. Quarterback Trevor Northup completed 13 of 17 passes for 201 yards and one touchdown. Keaton Winn caught six passes for 94 yards and one touchdown, while Christian Wittrock caught two for 35 yards, and Zack Conger and Brady Donovan each had one reception. Christian Wittrock and Chandler Eckley each caught an interception, with Wittrock running his back for a touchdown. Ryan Swanson had seven tackles, and Cole Reighard finished with 6.5. Kyle Miller had 5.5 tackles, while Matthew Bollinger and Matther Jones each had 4.5, and Chase Copeland had four. Pekin hosts Winfield-Mount Union this Friday in the final regular season game. The Panthers will go into the playoffs next week as the number one seed in Class A District 6.
The Panther volleyball squad finished their regular season last Tuesday with a win over Columbus at home. Pekin won in three games, 25-20, 25-19, 25-15. Beth Atwood led the Panthers in kills with 12, she also had five digs and was 8-8 serving with two aces. Madelyn Baker made seven kills, five digs, and was 7-7 serving with one ace. Emily Bemis served 18-19 and had three aces, while Cassidy Tolle served 8-9 with two aces and had three kills. Whitney Horras finished with27 assists and was 17-17 serving with one ace. Courtney Comstock was 7-7 serving with two aces, and Mallory Reed had four kills and went 3-3 serving. Shelbie Williams finished with four kills and one assist. Victoria Lisk was 2-2 serving, and Shelbi Talley and Maggie Brown were each 1-1 serving.
