2014

David Snyder of Utah was home to visit Jr and Ann Snyder over the holidays. John Snyder of Iowa City was also home to celebrate Thanksgiving. John and Ann shopped on Black Friday in Cedar Rapids.

Lani Glass and Dick and Charlotte Downey were quite busy last week. Their kids and grandkids were home for the wedding of Alexi Holmes and Richard Downey. The couple were married at Trinity Friends Church with the reception at the Lake Darling Lodge.

Jane and Charlie Blakely’s home was full for Thanksgiving weekend. All of their kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids came for the holidays. Bud and Heather weren’t able to make the party, they had their new son last week. Deklan Edward was small, but he’s a fighter.

Joe and Kathryn Deutsch hosted lunch on Thanksgiving for their family.

Bob and Barb Allsup entertained their family on Thanksgiving.

Carol and Dale Starr prepared a huge dinner for their kids, grandkids, and great-grandkids on Thanksgiving Day. Their son Wayne and family weren’t able to make it due to the weather.

Bob and Joyce Pfeifer had several members of their family for lunch on Thanksgiving Day.

Jerry and Bonnie Adrian hosted lunch on Thanksgiving Day for Jerry’s brothers and sister and families. Their granddaughter was also there.

Bill and Sue Gill hosted Gary and Bev Neel on Thanksgiving night for supper.

A belated Thanksgiving dinner and pre-Christmas dinner was held Sunday at the home of Wayne and Iola Parsons. The birthday of Rita Eastman was also celebrated. Those present were Eric Eastman, Madilynn, Katelynn, and Dylan of Cedar Falls; Thayer and Nikki Westercamp, Alexis, Haley, Blake, and Tate of Oskaloosa; Kimberly Spray, J.T. and Brogin of Packwood; Tim and Nancy Parsons of Richland; Jessica St. John of Cedar Falls; Nick Cook of Packwood; and the host and hostess.

Enjoying the evening meal of Nov. 23 at the home of Winifred Fritz were her children Tony Fritz of Brighton with friend Lynn, and Joel and Mary Boatright with Bridget of Fairfield. They also enjoyed a few card games.

Caryl Smith was visited by her nephew John and Sally Collins of Colorado and cousin Trish and Gordon Stevenson of Wisconsin. They came for the Thanksgiving holiday, arriving on November 26.

On Nov. 22, Pat Remington met her sister Kathy Babberl of Chariton in Ottumwa for lunch and shopping. Pat spent November 25 with her son Travis in Ainsworth.

1979

Mel and Judy Maeder of Maeder’s Mill, Richland, held their annual open house in appreciation of their customers on December 5.

Nine people showed up in Richland to walk and run for one hour for the Blind Youth of America. Each person walked around the square for one hour to see how many laps they could go. The money that was collected will be given to the Blind Youth Organization.

The Richland, Brighton, and Fairfield Fire Departments answered a call to Eugene Elmore’s two miles southwest of Pleasant Plain. The blaze destroyed Elmore’s hog finishing house and feed shed.

1969

Dedication services and open house were held Sunday Nov. 16 at the new St. Frances Xavier Cabrini parish center in Richland. Beginning at 2 p.m., the building was blessed by His Excellency, Gerald O’Keefe, bishop of the Davenport Diocese.

Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Hixson celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary. Ralph Hixson and Ruth Singleton were united in marriage in Ottumwa in 1919. They were born and raised at Richland and resided here until 1945, when they moved to a farm near Ainsworth, where they still reside.

Dick Roberts, who is employed at the Allen Chevrolet, was in Des Moines attending the 1969 Fall Parts and Accessories three day basic parts school. He ranked the second highest in the class.

Woodrow Wilson Ingle, 50, passed away following a long illness. He was born in 1918, the son of John and Louetta Hinkle Ingle in Ollie.
