Winfield Lions Club sponsored the Boy Scout Pinewood Derby. Winning was Cody Mullin, second place went to Noah Sparrow, and third place was Seth Henry.
2005
Amanda Richardson, WMU senior, signed a national Letter of Intent to play softball for Muscatine Community College.
Leslie Miles, WMU sophomore and resident of Winfield, has been accepted as a Youth Exchange Student by Rotary International.
Qualifying for the state wrestling meet from WMU/New London were: Josh Knipfer, Jeret Chiri, Caleb Martin, Mike Fahrer, Dillon Darbyshire, and Dustin Powers.

Two WMU wrestlers, Shane Richardson and Dusty Nelson, qualified for the state wrestling meet.
Brandy Lynn Smith of Winfield and Jeffrey Keith Loyd of Columbus Junction were married Aug. 28, 1999 at the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church.

Billy Nordyke was named Class 1A Football Player of the Year.
April Suzann Kephart of Winfield and Ken Vincent Gaulke of Mt. Pleasant have announced their engagement and upcoming June 3 wedding.
Local John Deere Territory Awards were presented to Randy Coleman, Jeff Suter, Jerry Steele, Tod Fischer, Nancy Davis, and Gary Crill at the Parkview Plaza Hotel in Ottumwa.

WMU School Board accepted the resignation of Don Betts and Paul Thompson as head and assistant football coaches.
The Iowa Hawkeye basketball team with Steve Carfino and the Action Sports Hawkeye are coming to Winfield to play the WMU area men.
A dinner honoring the 60th wedding anniversary of Farrel and Helen Young was held Feb. 3 at the home of Charlotte and Royce Bonnichsen of Columbus Jct.
1980
Jonathan Schmidt died Feb. 23 in the early morning in a fire that apparently started inside the station wagon he was driving on the Wyman blacktop at the Lester Gipple corner.
Kathy Krieger scored a career single game high of 42 points to lead the WMU girls to a 66-51 win over Highland.
