2015
This is the fifth year in a row for the WMU jazz band and the third straight year for director Logan Vander Wiel to qualify for the state jazz championships. Earlier this year the band placed second at the Tallcorn Jazz Festival at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls, second at the Coe College Jazz summit at Coe College in Cedar Rapids, and second place at the SE Iowa District Jazz Contest.
Pack 21 of the Winfield Cub Scouts picked up food on March 21, 2015. Their efforts gained 788 items for the Food Pantry.,
Larry and Patty Escher of Winfield are pleased to announce the engagement of their daughter Megan Escher to Richard Brummel, so of Ken and Kay Brummel of Sheffield, Illinois. An August 2015 wedding is being planned.

Winners at Winfield’s Easter Egg Hunt were Lilly VanAmerongen, Beau VanAmerongen, Will VanAmerongen, Matthew Jacobs, Molly Hinkle, Ashley Kruse, Kara Wade, Geoffrey Huston, Zack Davis, Jenna Buffington, Hailey Allbaugh, and Hannah Harbison.
Wilma Gibbs celebrated her 90th birthday on April 3.
Erin Redlinger, daughter of Randy and Rhonda Redlinger, signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at SCC.
Les Miles, Terry Allen, Krista Sterner, and Caitlin Haight represented Winfield-Mt. Union at the Southeast Iowa Super Conference High School Vocal Festival.
2000
The WMU Jazz Band made a trip to Des Moines for the State Competition. A concert and send off was held for them after church on Sunday, April 9.
Letha Cornwell celebrated her 90th birthday.
The Winfield MAP program, sponsored by the Winfield Fire and Rescue Unit, has been a great success in Winfield.
1995
Eric Rawson, a senior at WMU, has verbally committed to attend the University of South Dakota at Vermillion.
Mr. and Mrs. Max Gipple celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary.
1990
Honored for 50 years of membership in the Winfield Good Faith Lodge #235 were Glenn Rodgers, Ted Anderson, Norris Haight, and Beryl Kirkpatrick.
The Ruth B. Williams estate sale will be held April 25 in Winfield.
1985
Scott Tandy was named Outstanding Performer at the IHSSA State Individual Speech Contest.
Two WMU-MS girls’ basketball players were named to the Iowa Newspaper Association six-player all-state basketball honorable mention, junior forward Robin Lauderdale and senior guard Jenna Krieger.
1980
Helene Grimmer has returned from a year as an exchange student in Australia.
Brian Bergstrom and Kent Kaufman have been selected to attend Boy’s State by Olds Post #626.
Allan B. Eich has been appointed president of the Iowa State Bank of Morning Sun.
1975
Barb Krieger, six-foot senior forward on the 1974-1975 WMU girls’ basketball team was named to the Iowa Daily Press Association first team.
Barry Ross, who started in business the first of July, 1973, under the business name of ross Excavation and Construction, has built a 40’x60’ building in the 300 block of North Oak Street in Winfield.
Mr. and Mrs. Leo Jackson of rural Winfield celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on March 30.
1970
Bob Metzger, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hollis Metzger, has left the state and has been in Vietnam for two weeks.
1965
The Farmers Elevator Company has purchased the old planning mill and is constructing a new office and new 70’ fifty-ton scale.
