Kaleb Hagge carded a two-over 38 and led WMU to a 167-265 boys’ dual win over Iowa Mennonite School at Twin Lake golf course.
2005
M. Gerald Buffington is celebrating his 90th birthday on May 3, 2005.
The WMU boys’ golf team won their meet against Danville. Scores were Josh Knipfer 39, Jason Knipfer 43, Cody Dettwiler 47, and Russel Fritcher 49.

Courtney Everett received an award for first place in the prestigious Theodore Garrison Creative Writing contest.
Lindsey Loyd of Winfield will be playing alto and bass saxophones and clarinet in the Lab Band concert at the University of Iowa.
Megan Griffith of Knoxville and Wyatt Paul Peterson of Winfield have announced their engagement and upcoming June 17 wedding.
Kash Ryan Rossiter was born to Kurt and Kim Rossiter of rural Crawfordsville on April 20.
Laci Palar, WMU graduate and a junior at Coe College, earned a letter for her participation on the Kohawk Women’s basketball team this winter.

Work was received of the death of Rev. Max Fisk, of Eugene, Oregon. He was a former pastor of the Winfield Open Bible Church.
Gretchen Franzen and Scott Briggs have announced their engagement.
Lauri J. Diehl and Curt R. McAllister have announced their plans to marry on July 1, 1995.
1990
The Winfield and Olds Fire Departments responded to a call at the home of Harlan Lemke east of town on Hwy 78. Minor damage was done in the kitchen after a fire originated in the kitchen stove.
1985
A benefit dinner was held April 28 for the families of Terry Parkhurst, age 34, and Donald Crow, age 30, of Morning Sun, who were killed in a tragic sewer accident.
Harold and Frances Boline are the parents of a new daughter, Julianna Dawn, on April 17.
Mr. and Mrs. Bill Finke are the parents of a daughter, Kiley Sue, born April 15, 1985.
1980
Winfield “Meals on Wheels” was to start in Winfield on May 5 under the direction of Mrs. Pat Mumme, administrator of Sunrise Terrace, with 21 people signed up. Meals will be prepared at Sunrise Terrace and delivered three days a week at a cost of $1.50 each.
Around 4:30 p.m. on April 18 the highway patrol spotted a fire in Lee McCall’s gas truck as it traveled down the highway. Lee was unaware that his truck was on fire, but he escaped safely. He had 500 gallons of gasoline in the truck and the dense black smoke and extremely hot fire caused traffic to be blocked on 2318 until the blaze was under control.
Sonny Bunker has opened Bunker Welding at the white metal shop building across the alley east from Logan Oil Co.

A real estate and household good sale of Art Abbott was scheduled for May 15.
A.B. Anderson was honored for his 87th birthday.
1970
Dr. D.H. Westercamp was presented the Honorary Chapter Farmer Award by the Winfield-Mt. Union chapter of Future Farmers of America.
U.S. Air Force Captain Phillip W. Marshall, son of Mr. and Mrs. Phillip W. Marshall of Winfield, has graduated from the Air University’s Squadron Officer School at Maxwell AFB in Alabama.
Mr. and Mrs. Merle Linder have received word that their son Dennis has arrived in Vietnam and is stationed at Nha Trang.
1965
Howard Knupp has announced the closing of the Sportsman’s Café at the close of business on May 1.
Joy Maxwell, Gary Olson, and Gary Marshall among the more than 1250 students at the University of Iowa who were recognized for academic achievement at an Honors Convocation on May 1.
Approximately 500 people attended the open house at the new firehouse and library.
