Drake Relays - Winfield boys win sixth place in half-mile relay: Four members of our track team, Wise, Beauchamp, Hill, and Bowers, went to the Drake Relays at Des Moines last weekend. The quartet made a good showing when we consider that practically every state in the Union were represented with one or more teams. Florida, Kansas, Oklahoma and several other states were especially strong. The local boys were placed in sixth place at the close of their half-mile relay in which seventeen schools were pitted against each other, so that the record is not at all bad. Harold Russell and Donald Cook accompanied the team, and Coach Price and Supt. Durkee saw that the boys were in good condition. In all it was a profitable trip for them, they gained much in knowledge of track and field contests.
Miss Wahneetah Clark, daughter of Sam Clark of this place, and J.E. Ingalls, also of this place, were quietly married at noon today at the home of the bride’s father with Rev. N.M. Ragland officiating. Owing to illness in the family, only a couple of friends, Dr. Walter Black and Mrs. George Peekham were present. Mr. Ingalls has made his home here for the past twelve years and is in the oil business. Miss Clark is a graduate of the University of Arkansas and has taught in the local high school. She has been prominent in local club and suffrage work. The couple will continue to make their home here. – Fayetteville, Arkansas Democrat. (Yesterday’s mail brought us the paper from which we make the above clipping, and we may remark that it came as a surprise. Relatives and friends of Wahneetah are sending their best wishes for the future happiness of herself and husband.
The marriage of Miss Hallie Skipton and T.H. Martin occurred at 2 p.m., Wednesday, May 2, at the Grace M.E. parsonage in Burlington, Rev. Stogill, performing the ceremony. The couple were accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. U.U. Beauchamp, who took them to that city in their car and later brought them safely home. Soon after nightfall different crowds began to make a racket around the home, but Tom was liberal and equal to the emergency and soon had all in the best of humor and as they departed it was with many good wishes for the newly wedded pair.
