Supper guests for a cookout at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Buffington and Rhonda Thursday, May 3, were Mr. and Mrs. Larry Jennings, Sandra, Christa and Scott and Mr. and Mrs. Dave Tandy, Scott and Sarah.
Dinner guests in the James Kelley home Sunday in honor of Mr. Kelley’s 89th birthday which was May 9, were Mr. and Mrs. R.A. Fouts and sons, Steve and Doug of Des Moines and Bob of the University of Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. James Kelley, Jr., Scott, Cori and David of Danville, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. John Kelley and Denny of Winfield; Mr. and Mrs. Mike Kelley, Angie and Michelle of Burlington.
Katie Louise Scherer was born Thursday, March 26, 1973 at 3:03 a.m. at Henry County Memorial hospital in Mt. Pleasant. She weighed eight pounds, nine-and-one-half ounces, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Scherer of Winfield. She has a sister, Toni, and brother, J.R., at home. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Scherer, Burlington; Mr. Mac Barrow of Davenport. Great-grandparents are Mrs. Sam Hays, Kahoka, Missouri, and Mrs. Bert Hornbuckle of Davenport.
Mr. and Mrs. Roger Sharp of Winfield are the parents of a daughter and a son. Alayne Kathleen, their seven pound, 13-and-one-half adopted daughter was born April 20, 1973 and arrived in their home April 25, 1973. April 29, 1973, their son was born at Henry County Memorial hospital. He weighed seven pounds, six-and-one-quarter ounce and has been named Aric Raymond. The babies join a brother, 18-month-old Aaron. Grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Sharp of Santa Maria, California, and Mr. and Mrs. J.O. Sleyster of Perry, Missouri. Great-grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Huffman, Perry, Missouri, Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Holmes, Stockport, Iowa, and Mrs. Esther Sharp, New London, Iowa.
Frances Schenk, Pearl Rossiter, and Ruby Gustison attended the Burlington area United Crusade and heard John Wesley White, evangelist, preach, and Tom Bledsoe, choir director, direct a choir of 400 singers. The Burlington gym was filled to capacity.
25 years ago — May 14, 1998
Kasey Lintz celebrated her sixth birthday with a party at her home on May 6th. Students from her kindergarten class were her guests. The theme for her party was a petting zoo. The kids enjoyed the puppies, kittens, deer, chickens, rabbits, and lambs. Afterward, the class enjoyed hot dogs, chips, and birthday cake provided by Leila Lintz.
Ejay and Pauline Eastin of LaHabra, California were guests of Charles and Dorothy VanDyke from Thursday through Saturday. On Mother’s Day Ed and Julie Rathmell of Cedar Falls, Hayden Rathmell of Colorado Springs, Colorado, and Gary VanDyke of Galesburg were dinner guests of the VanDykes.
