Harold E Schirm was appointed to the Winfield Church at a special service Sunday evening at the Iowa Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church. Rev. Schirm will give his first sermon in the Winfield Church on Sunday, June 24, 1973. Rev. Schirm is married and has four children. His wife’s name is Lea. The children are Suzanne, 15, who will be a junior in high school; Kathryn (Kathi), 13, will be in eighth grade; Edward (Ed) is nine and will be in fourth grade; Sharon (Shari) is six and will be in first grade. The minister’s hometown is St. Charles, Iowa, where his mother and brother still live on a farm. He is a member of Lions, Masons, and Eastern Star and his wife says she “can’t think of any hobbies, in the true sense of the word, but he does have lots of interests — sports, fishing, scouting, tec.” She guesses her hobby is Harold and the four children. She does belong to American Legion Auxiliary and Eastern Star and likes to sew and knit.
Dr. and Mrs. Randy Blaylock have moved to Winfield and Dr. Blaylock has assumed his practice of veterinary medicine with Dr. D.H. Westercamp in the Winfield Veterinary Clinic. Dr. Blaylock is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leon Blaylock of South English and his wife, Barbara, is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Gretter of Harper, Iowa. He graduated from English Valley High School in 1967 and from Iowa State University, Ames, in May, 1973 with a degree of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Mrs. Blaylock graduated from Keota High School and 1967 and from Northern Iowa University in 1971. She has taught third grade in Des Moines for two years. They moved on June 1 and the doctor started working in partnership with Dr. Westercamp on June 11, 1973.
Mrs. James Lee, Winfield, was one of seven lucky contestants in the “Cut the Deck” competition conducted by Sprout, Waldron & Company, Inc., Muncy, Pennsylvania at the recent American Feed Manufacturers Association Convention and Exhibit at Kansas City, Missouri. Mrs. Lee accompanied her husband, who in production manager of Teklad Mill here in Winfield. In visiting the Sprout-Waldron exhibit at the “Trump Card ‘73” show, Mrs. Lee drew one of six qualification cards from a shuffled deck. Her entry was then drawn from all contest qualifiers to win an electric belt sander (fifth priz¬¬e in the contest).
Drake University President, Wilbur C. Miller, has selected Vicki Rossiter as a Presidential Freshman Scholar. The $200 award was made in recognition of academic excellence for ranking in the upper quarter of her graduating class. Vicki is the daughter of Mr. And Mrs. Myers M Rossiter of Winfield.
The first birthday of Jamie Woepking was celebrated last week, Wednesday, at the home of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Warren Woepking in Winfield. Attending were his grandparents and great-grandparents: Mr. and Mrs. James Woepking of Mt. Pleasant and Clarence Unkrich and Mrs. Hazel Woepking of rural Winfield; Mr. and Mrs. Harold Tolander, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Unkrich and Mrs. Hazel Woepking of Mt. Pleasant. Also attending were Mr. and Mrs. Pete Turbett and Tiffany, Stanley Unkrich and Julia Unkrich.
