1998
•Crooked Creek Days are scheduled for July 31 and August 1 in Winfield
•Pitcher Jenny Anderson threw a no-hitter at the Highland of Ainsworth-Riverside Monday night en route to a 5-0 win. Anderson struck out nine Huskies and allowed just five runners to reach base in the game.
•Nancy Nordyke, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Billy Nordke, graduated from Grand View College.
•Led by the arm and bat of Marcy Davis, Winfield-Mt. Union rolled past Keokuk Cardinal Stritch in SEI Superconference non-division softball action, 13-0, in six innings. Davis tossed a complete game three-hitter on the mound, and slammed a two-run homer to highlight the 12-hit attack.
•A new group is being organized in Winfield, Women of Faith Arise. The first meeting of this group will be held Saturday morning, July 18, at Crill’s in Winfield.
2003
•Leo and Joan Lange of Iowa City celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 21, 2003.
•The Cairo Reunion Committee presented longtime resident, recent author, and historian Helen Aringdale with the first copy of “Recipes & More from Historic Cairo, Iowa” at their annual reunion.
•Carmen Richers, Mt. Union, was named 2003 Henry County Fair Queen.
•Gail Chrisinger, age 77, of Winfield died Friday, July 18 at Sunrise Terrace Care Center.
•The Winfield-Mt. Union Cross Country team invite new runners to the team. Training camp will begin Monday, July 28. Runners should also mark their calendar for Aug. 2 to remind them of the Crooked Creek run.
2008
•Colin Lindell Peterson of Winfield and Hana Elizabeth Hinkle of Oregon announce their engagement. Parents of the couple are Bill and Janie Hinkle of Oregon and Leon and Jean Ann Peterson of Winfield.
•Virginia and Malcolm Mason were pleasantly surprised when Kansas City relatives visited. Also this reunion included daughter, Kimberly Kracaw. It had been several years since they all had visited.
•Mitchel Ubben of Winfield recently attended First-Year Orientation and Registration at the University of Northern Iowa.
2013
•The Winfield Fire & Rescue is hosting a four-person best shot golf tournament Saturday, Aug. 10 at Twin Lakes Golf & Country Club.
•The Winfield Fire & Rescue received a call of a man caught in a grain bin on July 22. They found Gary Buffington buried up to his waist in corn. He was trapped in the corn for 35-45 minutes after the department arrived. Buffington was able to get out under his own power. He was taken to the hospital by personal vehicle and was home by the end of the day.
•The Winfield Public Library ended a successful Summer Reading Program July 13 with a Family Pool Party. Seventy people enjoyed hot dogs and buns provided by the Henry County Cattlemen’s Association.
•LaVonne Hinkle will celebrate her 80th birthday on July 31, 2013.
•Former Winfield resident Faye Featherston Flack died April 26, 2013 at her home in Mesa, Arizona. She was married to Buddy R. Flack, who established his veterinary practice in Winfield.
