Out of Winfield’s Past

•Stephen Gerling, Mt. Union, was injured when a 205-4 Massey Ferguson tractor he was operating on a field terrace rolled over one time. He was treated at the scene before being transported to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics.

•Sisters Nelle Lindell and Ollie Allen will be this year’s Crooked reek Day Ambassadors. They represent a total of 185 years of Winfield’s living history.

•Patsy L. Thompson and Myron R. Schmeiser were married Aug. 1, 1948 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Burlington. They celebrated 50 years of marriage.

•Cecil and Mary Replogle of Cincinnati, Ohio came this past week to visit in the home of Cecil’s mother Muriel Replogle.

•Janice DeSteunder of El Cajon, California has been here two weeks helping care for her mother, Mildred Linder, who is recovering from hip surgery.

2003

•Dr. Billy and Georgette Nordyke have been selected as the 2003 Ambassadors for Winfield’s Crooked Creek Days.

•Keith Thomas, Winfield, scored a hole-in-one on number one hole on Sunday, July 20 at Twin Lakes Country Club. Witnessing the event was Bob Hilmer.

•Don’t miss Winfield Historical Society’s fun booth, Toss a Coin — Win a Dish, at their booth during Crooked Creek Days.

•Winnie Lauderdale is a patient at the Mercy Hospital, Iowa City. She will be there for another week and would enjoy hearing from friends.

•Brandy Kay Miller and Jason Duane McArtor wish to announce their engagement. Jason is the son of Ron and Jeryl McArtor of Winfield. He was a 1994 graduate of Winfield-Mt. Union High School.

2008

•Helen Kellogg Gerling was the Ambassador of the Crooked Creek Days of 2008.

•The descendants of Frank Gipple’s family enjoyed July 5 at the farm of Max and Lucile Gipple.

•Winners of the 2008 Crooked Creek frog jump were first place Conner Wade, second place Sommer Grimmer, third place Hanna Mathews and Paige Strickland.

•Surfin’ the Creek dog show results were Brook Crow with Woody, most handsome dog; Gabe White with Lily, sweetest dog; Tim Rich with Chelsie, most beautiful dog; Cole Williams with Rachet, youngest dog; Amy Liles with Sam, most well behaved dog; Rhonda Howard with Nikitta, most elegant dog; Codi Asher with Oreo, funniest dog; Carolyn Adam with Scootie, fluffiest dog; Ana Hudson with Tiny, most dazzling dog; Danielle Carr with Tinker Bell, tiniest dog.

2013

•George and Carolyn Buster named 2013 Crooked Creek Ambassadors.

•Grasshorse Studios is seeking three actors from the area to star in a one-day commercial shoot in mid-August for Bug Soother.

•Deborah Ahmed and Dr. Steve Wittrig are engaged to be married. He is the son of Dr. John and Mrs. Betty Wittrig of Winfield. They will be married Sept. 1 at the Winfield United Methodist Church. The couple will make their home in Chicago.

•Harry Dean Suter, 87, of Winfield, died Aug. 2, 2013 in Sunrise Terrace Care Center in Winfield.
