1993
•David Courter was an overnight visitor at the Mayne Courter home. He was returning to his home in Michigan after riding RAGBRAI.
•Karmen Johnson hosted a surprise 50th birthday party for Gary Johnson and Mick Garris on July 27.
•Lois Crawford moved into Westview Apartments in Winfield this week. Her grandson, Mr. and Mrs. Tony Crawford and Jenni have moved into the home she vacated in Morning Sun.
•Eryn Bierle, of Cedar Falls, visited her grandparents, Keith and Mary Crawford. Her brother, Trent, had back surgery at University of Iowa Hospitals on July 29.
1998
•Girls State representative, Mary Grothe, gave a most interesting report of her week spent at Cedar Falls at the July 28 Winfield American Legion Auxiliary meeting.
•Keith Loyd was the winner of an unlimited six-month family pass to the Coral Ridge 10 Theaters in the drawing held at the Mall’s grand opening on July 29.
•Marjorie Rothenburger is the proud great-grandmother of a five pound, 12 ounce baby girl, Mika Suzzane. Her parents are Jeff and Tina McCullough of Elgin, Illinois.
•Zachary Burford has been visiting the home of his grandparents, Rich and Cathy Lauderdale. He and Shelby Therme spent the day Monday with great-grandparents, Hollis and Winnie Lauderdale.
2003
•Derek Klopfenstein was awarded a $9000 Presidential Scholarship from Central College.
•Cynthia Huston and Chris and Sarah Westerbeck and twins, Rachel and Alex, were supper guests of Arlene Swan. They spent the night and attended the Swan family picnic at the Vets building.
•The oldest person attending the Swan family picnic was Mildred Neil at 94 and the youngest were twins, Alex and Rachel, at three-months old.
2008
•Ed Kilpatrick shared a nine-and-half pound cabbage. With the wet growing season, none of the heads of cabbage have cracked as you would normally expect.
•Seth Schurr was first, Dallyn Kern second, and Brady Loyd third, in the five-year-old Crooked Creek Pedal Pull
•In the six-year-old Crooked Creek Pedal Pull, Chance Malone was first, Noah Freeman second, and Anna Hudson third.
•Chris Gerling won the Men’s Pull in the Crooked Creek Pull, while Grant Klopfenstein was second.
2013
•Crooked Creek Days Horseshoe Tournament winners were Fred Martin, winner; Josh Knipfer, runner-up; Toby Kern, third place.
•A hot-air balloon landed two miles south of Winfield on the Roger Sharp property on August 1. The pilot was Jared Miller from Mt. Pleasant. With the balloon only going 10 miles an hour, it took him two hours to reach the Sharp pond.
•Recent Kirkwood Community College scholarship winners were Katelyn McArtor was awarded a $2000 to support her studies in the Agriculture Production Management program. James Miller was awarded a $940 scholarship to support his studies in the Culinary Arts program.
