1993
•Michael Beard, fifth-grade student at WMU, received a broken ankle when he fell through the float he was riding on during the Homecoming Parade at Winfield October 8.
•Chandra Griessel and Bradley Shelman were married June 26, 1993. Parents of the couple are Richard and Jeannette Griessel of Crawfordsville, and Laris and Kay Shelman of Winfield.
•Virginia Hillyard and daughter, Janet and Maggie Rees of Ainsworth, visited Rita Smith and family in Houston, Texas.
1998
•Chris Finnell was presented the 1998 Fireman of the Year award by Fire Chief Terry Wasson.
•Hope Gibbs and Nick Jones were crowned WMU Homecoming Queen and King.
•Walt and Shirl Hatton returned last week from visiting their daughter and son-in-law in Peyton, Colorado. While there they celebrated Walt’s birthday.
2003
•A card shower will be held in honor of the 66th Wedding anniversary of Hollis and Winnie Lauderdale.
•Phillip Marshall III and family of Keller, Texas spent several days recently with his grandparents, Phil and Shasta Marshall.
•A large crowd attended the recent open house held for Frances Schwartz’s 80th birthday.
2008
•Ryan Rees was named Winfield’s Firefighter of the Year for 2008.
•Florence Beaman, age 61, formerly of Winfield, died October 7, 2008, in Peoria Heights, Illinois.
•A public meeting will be held on October 16 to discuss the next phase of WMU’s athletic complex.
2013
•WMU senior volleyball player Erica Robison is now the school record holder for varsity games played in a career. Her record stands at 132 games and counting.
•WMU senior volleyball player Shelby Therme broke the school record for digs in a career Thursday night against WACO. She now has 741 career digs, with several games still to play.
•Marilyn Lambert and Mayne Courter were recognized at the worship service of First Presbyterian, Winfield, for their many years of service to the church: Marilyn as organist, choir member and soloist for over 50 years, and Mayne as a member of the choir and soloist for over 75 years.
