1994
•Elbert Snell celebrated his 90th birthday on Jan. 20 with a card shower.
•The WMU Wolves hosted an Australian Basketball team. The Lakeside team from Perth, Australia’s only loss in their tour of Iowa was to the WMU Wolves.
•Dan and Lori Hanze of rural Waukee are the parents of a baby girl, Katelyn Anne, born Dec. 20, 1993.
1999
•Six members of WMU band have been chosen to participate in the Central college honor Band. Selected were Matt Klohr, Kinsey Olson, Amy Frieberg, Robert Genkinger, Mandy Mabeus, and Heidi Steele.
•Mildred Marie McKeown, age 88, died Jan. 13, 1999, at Burlington Medical Center.
•Five WMU students were selected to the SEIABA Honor Band on Jan. 9, Lindsay Miller, Adam Suter, Sean Honts, Chris Benisckek, and Matt Thurman.
2004
•Brenda Gonzalex, Branch Manager of the Mt. Pleasant Branch of Farmers National Bank of Winfield, was honored at a dinner Dec. 2, with a plaque for being one of the top 5% loan originators for the year 2002.
•Jeff and Missy Gipple are the proud parents of a baby boy, Anden Lee, born Oct. 31, 2003.
•Jack Glenn Tuttle, age 60, of Morning Sun, died Dec. 28, 2003, at the Morning Sun Care Center.
2009
•Rev. and Mrs. Greg Carr of Winfield, announce the engagement of their daughter, Megan Renae to Joseph William Leach. An August 8, 2009, wedding is being planned in Oregon.
•Pauline Garrett, age 89, of Torrance, California, died Jan. 12, 2009. She was the daughter of Abe and Lucy Schwartz.
•Ralph E. Oak, age 84, of Columbus Junction, died Jan. 7, 2009, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.
2014
•Winfield-Mt Union girls’ basketball team beat Iowa Mennonite School by two points, 39-37. Logan Hartsock scored all of her 12 points in the second half, including seven in the fourth quarter.
•Russel Cline, age 83, of Winfield passed away Jan. 1, 2014, at Sunrise Terrace Care Center, Winfield, surrounded by his three daughters.
•Clauddia Short, age 92, of Winfield, died Jan. 2, 2014. She is survived by one daughter, Vernona Degen of Winfield, one grandson, and one great-granddaughter.
