1994
•Stephanie Lambright and Shannon Roth announced their engagement and upcoming June 25 wedding.
•Winfield-Mt. Union received a grant in the amount of $2000. The Nutrition Education Grant was awarded by the Iowa Department of Education.
•Orville H. Iseman, age 84, died Jan. 19, 1994 at the Henry County Health Center.
1999
•Shad and Angela Singleton have announced the birth of their daughter, Schae Kincade Singleton, born Jan. 13, 1999.
•Dorothy A. Laffey, age 70, died Feb. 1, 1999. Funeral services were held in Bentley, Kansas.
•Todd Samuels received an Academic All-State Award for excellence in academic achievements in football.
2004
•Peoples State Bank held an Open House Jan. 29, 2004, to celebrate their new facility. Employees were Irene Johnson, Doris conard, Leonard Hesseltine, Ronda Van Auken, Lorraine Huff, and Mick Garris.
•The Winfield-Mt. Union Jazz Band participated in the Iowa High School Music Association State Jazz Band Festival and received a I rating.
•Margaret M. Bowers, age 93, died at the Morning Sun Care Center on Jan. 19, 2004.
2009
•On Saturday, Jan. 17, the Henry County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an accident north of New London. Teresa Crill of Winfield was northbound when she lost control and spun into the ditch, striking an unoccupied vehicle that had slid into the ditch earlier in the evening.
•On Jan. 18, the Henry County Sheriff's Office received a report of an accident on 120th Street. Chelsea Woods, 21, of Winfield was eastbound when she lost control of her Escape on the snow-covered road. The vehicle entered the ditch and rolled over onto its top. Chelsea and her son, Jackson, two, were checked on scene and later transported to HCHC by private vehicle.
•Area singers are invited to participate in the 2009 Winfield community Easter Cantata. Rehearsals begin Feb. 8 at the Presbyterian Church. The choir is directed by Keith Thomas and accompanied by Mary Kilpatrick.
2014
•Frances Pogemiller, a resident of Sunrise Terrace Care Center in Winfield, and former resident of Morning Sun will celebrate her 104th birthday on February 12. Frances and her husband, Albert, were owners of the Pogemiller Orchard for over 50 years.
•Margaret Marie Biggerstaff, age 91, died Sunday, Jan. 26, 2014.
•Winfield-Mt. Union 4th and 5th graders recently participated in the “My Definition of Patriotism is …” essay contest sponsored by the VFW Auxiliaries in Winfield and Wapello. Fourth grade winners were Anden Gipple and Luis Piper, and fifth grade winners were Josh Burroughs and Molly Miller.
