1994
•Edward R. Thomas, age 61, died Jan. 27, 1994 at the Washington County Hospital.
•Friends have received word of the untimely death of Stephen Stilly, 23, a college student. His mother was Patsy Gisel Stilly.
•John and Kelly Flaherty are the parents of a son, James Andrew, born Jan. 27, 1994.
1999
•Ralph and Elvira (Upton) Mabeus celebrated their golden anniversary on Feb. 13, 1999.
•Mescall Morrison, age 87, formerly of the Columbus Jct. and Winfield area, died Jan. 29, 1999.
•Jan. 31, 1999, was an exciting time in the Winfield United Methodist Church. Candles were lit on 150 cupcakes, which represented the 150 years that Methodism had been established in the area.
2004
•Paul and Lynn Humphreys welcomed home a new son, Griffin Robert, born Jan. 19, 2004.
•WMU head coach, Mitch Wachs, was honored Jan. 23 as he reached 200 wins as a head coach.
•Melanie McCreight’s game high 23 points and five steals led the Lady Wolves to a North Division victory, 57-30, over Columbus.
2009
•Retired Col. R.L. Chrisinger, a 49-year United States Air Force Academy Admissions Liaison Officer was honored with the Admissions Liaison Officer Lifetime Achievement Award.
•Frances Pogemiller will celebrate her 99th birthday on Feb. 12, 2009.
•Mr. Gerling and his Industrial Technology students received a grant for $2394 from the Southeast Iowa Builders Association. New drafting tables and stools will be purchased.
2014
•WMU’s Lou Krieger-Coen (11th grade), Annabelle Loveless (4th grade), and Daunte Oepping (6th grade) had artwork displayed at the Iowa Association of School Boards Annual Convention in November.
•Clayton Robison was named to the 2013 fall semester Dean’s List at Iowa State University. His major is Animal Science.
•Bailey Hesseltine has been named to the fall 2013 Dean’s List at Mount Mercy University. She is studying Social Work.
