•Brad Buffington, WMU senior, has been selected to be a member of the 1994 Shrine All-Star South Squad.

•Will Buster, Dusty Meeker, Tim Keldgord and Trent Savage have advanced to the state wrestling tournament.

•Lloyd Daniel Brenneman, age 71, died Feb. 19, 1994.

1999

•Shane Richardson, WMU freshman, won one match and lost two at the State Wrestling Meet.

•Treyben Levi Saul Newton was born to Robert and Stephanie Newton of Winfield on Feb. 22, 1999.

•Jess Settles was named to the GTE Academic All-American Basketball District VII team.

2004

•The WMU Lady Wolves won over WACO 44-33 in the first round of sectional play.

•Kim and Kurt Rossiter are the parents of a baby girl, Kwynlan Ann, born Feb. 4 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

•The Red Hat Society “Crooked Creakers” met at the home of Margaret Biggerstaff on Feb. 14.

2009

•Linda Lappe, 1998 graduate of Winfield-Mt. Union, will be induced into the Iowa High School Girls’ Basketball Hall of Fame on March 6, 2009. After high school Lappe went on to play college basketball at the University of Colorado.

•Jillian Egan and Keith Fink are pleased to announce their engagement and upcoming wedding, Aug. 22, 2009. Jillian is the granddaughter of Bernice Lee of Winfield.

•Irene Pankoke of Winfield has a new great-granddaughter. Anna James Pankoke, daughter of Aaron and Julie Pankoke was born Feb. 4, 2009.

2014

•John Siegel, former Morning Sun and Winfield-Mt. Union wrestling coach was inducted into the Wrestling Hall of Fame on Feb. 22, 2014.

•Pictured on the front page of the Feb. 27, 2014 paper was five generations of the Wilma Oberman family: Wilma Oberman, Pat Darbyshire (daughter), Amanda Roelfs (great-granddaughter), Isabelle Roelfs (great-great-granddaughter), and Tom Darbyshire (grandson).

•At approximately 1:34 a.m. on Feb. 21, 2014 Tyler Woodsmall, of Winfield, reported his car going into the ditch just north of Mt. Pleasant on Highway 218. He lost control due to icy road conditions and struck a tree after entering the ditch.
