Out of Winfield’s Past

•Access Energy Poster Contest winners from Winfield-Mt. Union were Olivia Martinez, Kailey Neil, Cooper Buffington, Isabel Kann, Camden Buffington, and Kaya Day.

•Prairie Ag Coop is nearly tripling their grain receiving capacity in Winfield with the addition of a new pit and leg that have a rated hourly capacity of 10,000 bushels per hour.

•Jabe and Dana Finke are the parents of twins. Gunner Michael and Tynley Elizabeth were born April 18, 2014.

2009

•Breanne Smith has been chosen by Unit #643 to attend the Iowa American Legion Auxiliary Girls State in June.

•Debra Buster and Nathan Carlson will be married June 6 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in Mt. Pleasant.

•Rev. Greg Carr was presented with a plaque from the Winfield Fire Department for 12 years of service.

2004

•Jabe Finke of Winfield was honored as a 2003-2004 Presidential Scholar at Upper Iowa University.

•An agreement has been signed which allows Farmers National Bank of Winfield, located in Winfield and Mt. Pleasant, to merge with Pilot Grove Savings Bank.

1999

•John D. Simmons, age 55, of Burlington, died April 25, 1999, at Veterans Administration Medical Center in Iowa City.

•On April 25, the WMU band competed in the Adventureland-Drake Relay competition and received first in Class 1A in the parade competition.

1994

•Krista Jennings and Jeff Hagge announced their engagement and upcoming June 25 wedding.

•The Winfield Congregate Meal site celebrated their 10th anniversary on April 21.

1989

•Jeff Hagge, son of Mr. and Mrs. Don Hagge, has joined the family business, Hagge Insurance Agency.

•Terra’s “Big Foot” sprayer, driven by Kevin Smith, lost its hydraulic controlled guidance system. The front wheel locked and could not be steered. The machine ended up in the ditch upside down. Kevin was able to crawl out from the smashed cab. He was taken to the hospital where he received stitches to his face.

1984

•Tom and Kim George are the parents of a daughter, Leslie Elise, who was born April 8, 1984.

•Mr. and Mrs. Willard Poore observed their 50th wedding anniversary on April 29, 1884.
