Out of Winfield’s Past

Sinclair Implement hosted an open house and flag dedication on May 29, 2014 at their facility south of Winfield. Manager Jerry Steele welcomed guests and introduced Gary Johnson, commander of the Winfield American Legion, who read a dedication for the 12’x18’ flag. Keysha Dixon, daughter of employee Wendy Dixon, sang the National Anthem as six employees raised the large flag.

A fish fry benefit for Kyle “Hutbutt” Hudson will be held June 14 at the Welcome Inn in Winfield with a pool tournament and live auction also.

2009

June 6 the old playground at Winfield-Mt. Union School will be torn out to get ready for a new community park.

Pat Coen will serve as the new WMU superintendent and Aimee Wedeking will serve as elementary principal.

2004

As the result of a tragic accident, a lifelong Winfield-Mt. Union area resident, businessman, family man, and friend, Kenny Kongable, lost his life on May 22, 2004.

Sunrise Terrace Care Center in Winfield was presented with a Governor’s Award for Quality Care in Health Care Facilities.

1999

Area citizens were on hand for the ribbon cutting and opening of the Winfield Historical Museum on May 22.

Jane VanWinkle was married to Dr. Don Berg on March 5, 1999 at the Des Moines Botanical Center.

1994

John and Doris Carty were visited by Margaret and John Livesley. The Livesley’s were in Iowa to visit the Cartys and attend the 50th reunion of the 53rd Troop Carrier Squadron of the Air Force.

Wendy Wheeler and Matthew Miller have announced their engagement and upcoming July 9 marriage.

1989

Jananne Marie Lauber and Randy Raymond Slaughter were united in marriage on April 22 at the Presbyterian Church in Winfield.

Don Hagge was presented with the Silver Key Award by Pekin Life Insurance Company.

1984

Michael D. Shelman has received a BSE degree in Elementary Education from Missouri State University, Kirksville. Michael is the son of Mrs. Miles Shelman.

John Carty presented the Citizenship Award to Carol Trees at the Awards Banquet ceremony at WMU.
