Out of Winfield’s Past

Grace Edwards of Winfield appreciates everyone that helped her accomplish er goal in the book drive for the University of Iowa Children's Hospital. She raised 450 books, 75 DVDs and $250.

Danielle Rae Mullen and Aaron Johnson Black were married April 18, 2014, at the Celebration Farm in Iowa City. Parents of the couple are DeWane and Laura Mullen of Winfield, and Rollin and Leanne Black of Wapello.

Isaac Berry, Krystal Johnson, and Candy Skow, all of Winfield, were named to the SCC Spring 2014 Dean’s List.

2009

On June 2, 2009, Cody J. Woodsmall, age 20, of Winfield was eastbound on Hwy. 78, when he lost control of his 1998 Pontiac Grand Am due to heavy rain. The vehicle entered the eastbound ditch, struck a cement culvert, and came to rest in the ditch. No injuries were reported.

Joe and Lihong Lu (Lulu) McPhail of Ames are delighted to welcome little SuMay Lu into their family. She was born May 9, 2009. Local grandparents are Laura McPhail of Winfield and Gene and Albina McPhail of Oswego, Illinois.

2004

Melanie Carlson and Sam Bauck were honored as WMU Student Athletes of the Year.

More than 1400 people gathered in the WMU High School gymnasium to celebrate the life of Kenny Kongable.

1999

Two new houses are being constructed in Winfield One at 205 South Locust and one across the street from Sunrise Terrace Care Center.

Olivia Rene Fenton was born May 18, 1999, to LaMar and Kim Fenton of Mt. Union.

1994

Don Hills, WMU custodian for 10 years, was honored at a ceremony. He also celebrated his 65th birthday.

Alicia Welch and GARY Hulme have announced their engagement and approaching marriage on Dec. 31, 1994.

1989

Marjorie Caldwell (Mrs. Richard) passed away June 13 at HCHC.

Ashley Renae was born May 29 in Iowa City to Jeff and Dianne (McCullough) Lauber.

1984

Fire on May 26 destroyed two outbuildings on the Gary Stineman farm northeast of Winfield.

Allen and Jean Goff, Arlene Klopfenstein, Trenton, Maynard and Reva Goff, of Washington, and Betty Beck of Burlington all enjoyed dinner in Illinois to celebrate the Goff’s wedding anniversary.
