Hazel Maude Cisna, age 102, of Winfield, died July 24, at her home at Westview Apartments.

2009

The new Theresa Woline Playground at WMU has gone silent because vandals have damaged it within a month of it opening. The park will remain closed until the landscaping work is complete.

Jan Walter will retire as Winfield City Clerk in August. Savannah Finnell will be the new clerk.

Dan’s Plumbing and Heating became Benjamin Franklin Plumbing, as Dan and Anita have retired and sold the business to James and Silvia Hadley of Richland.

2004

The city of Mt. Union was incorporated August 20, 1904. In July, 2004, the city was planning its largest celebration ever.

Lois Perrenoud, age 77, formerly of Winfield, was killed July 19, 2004, when her car was struck by a train at the intersection of the Burlington northern Sante Fe railroad tracks and Carnahan Road.

Marty Lintz was the winner of the pie eating contest at the Washington County Fair.

Noah Edward Sparrow was born June 8, 2004, to Josh and Joy Sparrow of Winfield.

1999

Nancy Hoyle and Lynn Huston plan to wed August 28, 1999.

An estate machinery auction was set for August 21 for the Allen R. Canby Estate.

Jim Klopfenstein of Cedar Rapids portrayed Jesus at the Sixth Annual Crooked Creek Days Community Church service.

1994

Joyce Jackson and Tim Dunbar exchanged wedding vows on June 17, 1994, at the Wyman Park.

Jason Aird and Krista Johnson announced their engagement and approaching marriage of September 17, 1994.

Glen A. Davis, age 83, died July 13, 1994, at the Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant.

1989

Mr. and Mrs. Alden Fricke will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on August 27 with an open house.

Bulldozers and earthmoving equipment from Allgood bulldozing put a dome on the football field for proper drainage, packed the field, and got it all ready for sodding.

1984

WMU shut out L&M 12-0 in the first round of softball sectionals. Cathy Canby was the winning pitcher. Leading hitters were Jenna Krieger and Robin Lauderdale.

Barbara Lynn Moeller and Terry Lynn Phelps have announced their engagement.

Susan Elizabeth Weber and Rodney J. Fisher were married June 16, 1984, at the First Presbyterian Church in Winfield.
