Election held in City Hall Friday afternoon. Board asks for $160,000.00 to rebuild school building destroyed by fire. Tomorrow afternoon, in the city hall, an election will be held for the purpose of voting to issue bonds for the erection and equipment of a new school building. It is expected that one of the largest votes ever polled here will be recorded, in as much as people of this community want the school boards to know that they are behind them and willing to do their share toward replacing our building which was totally destroyed by fire recently. There is bound to be a few dissenting votes to the proposition, and we cannot blame the parties. If they really think this district can get along without housing quarters for their children and grandchildren. We are confident though that the great majority of our good people have made it a point to find out exactly what the school directors have done toward this building proposition, and that when the votes are counted tomorrow night the figures will show an overwhelming majority for a new building. The board has finally agreed upon a school building which will nicely take care of the school needs. There are no frills or expensive fancy stuff, but just a sensible comfortable house wherein the children of today and for many years to come, may have the educational advantages that every school district around here provides. The board is asking for $160,000.00, a very conservative figure when we realize a suitable location must be secured, a building erected, and a complete new equipment procured. The district has absolutely nothing to move in from other quarters.
Clarence (Bill) Fiscus started Friday of last week for Marshalltown, where he and two Mt. Pleasant fellows, “Skimmer” Miller and “Shaff” will have a tryout for positions on the Marshalltown ball team. “Bill” is pretty handy on the diamond and can put some pretty warm ones over the plate if anybody should ask you. He writes home that there are five for every position. Said that Sunday they were given a stiff workout. He says that he is enjoying himself. A man fell over dead in the hotel lobby while he was writing his letter, but a little thing like that doesn’t phase our “Bill.” We hope he makes the rifle for it is as natural for him to play ball as it is for a duck to swim.

The Winfield Area Recreation Center board of directors have accepted the bid of Reschly Construction, Olds, Iowa for a metal building to be erected at the Twin Lakes Golf Course. The building will be 30 feet wide by 100 feet long and is to be constructed with voluntary help from club members, with the supervision and advice of Mr. Reschly. Its use will be for the housing of the equipment and goods used for the care of the golf course. It will also be available for club members to rent space for housing their golf carts, both riding and pull type, along with bags, clubs, and shoes. Nearly one half of the available spaces are already spoken for, so if anyone wishes to rent a spot, please contact the Twin Lakes treasurer, Roger Sharp, immediately. There will be a rental fee for each space, payable the first of each year.
