Out of Winfield’s Past

2009

The house occupied by Tim and Vicky Railey and family was damaged Dec. 5, 2009, when smoke was discovered coming from the attic. It was necessary for firemen to cut a hole in the roof in order to get to the fire.

2004

The Winfield Medical Clinic has almost reached its fundraising goal. $49,300 had been received, leaving only $700 to be raised.

Mary Anna Paisly, age 96, of Winfield, died Nov. 27, 2004, at the h\Henry County Health Center in Mt. Pleasant.

1999

Jim Sorenson and his new business, Momentum Golf, was welcomed by Winfield Chamber officers and Winfield mayor.

Micki Hoodjier and Mark Rodruck were united in marriage on May 1, 1999.

Ida Roth, age 90, died Dec. 13, 1999, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City.

1994

Pauline Remick of Winfield was the lucky winner of the second Winfield Chamber Turkey Giveaway.

Named to the Iowa Newspaper Association’s 1994 All-State Football teams from Winfield-Mt. Union were Billy Nordyke, first team defense; Ryan Buffington, second team defense; Dylan McHugh and Eric Rawson, honorable mention.

Mildred F. Smith, age 87, of Mt. Union, died Nov. 25, 1994, at Community Care of Mediapolis.

1989

Aaron Sharp has been nominated for the Principal’s Leadership Award scholarship.

Laura Thacker and John Shoultz were married at the Winfield Methodist Church on Nov. 18.

Harry Suter was recently named 1990 Iowa State Checker Champion at the American Checker Federation held in Prairie City.

1984

Mrs. Chester Neil of rural Mt. Union became the first subscriber to the HCHC Auxiliary’s Lifeline program.

Donald Rich, age 51, of Washington, died Nov. 20 from injuries suffered in an accident at his farmstead.

Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Jennett celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Dec. 8.
