Avalin Mary Grothe, age 89, of Winfield died Dec. 11, 2014, at Sunrise Terrace Care Center in Winfield.
Frederick G. Hartman, age 75, of Winfield died Nov. 20, 2014, at Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.
Kara Rene Davis, age 53, died Dec. 15, 2014, at the Mercy Hospice unit in Iowa City.
2009
An open house was held Dec. 19, 2009, at the Twin Lakes Club House for Larry Buffington and Terry Wasson. Both are retiring after many years of service to the Winfield Community and as members of the Winfield Fire Department. Larry devoted 43 years and Terry 35 years as members of the Winfield Fire Department.
An open house reception to honor the marriage of James and Barbara Miller was held Dec. 19, 2009.
Pauline Wyse hosted a Christmas Block Party for Ron and Wendy Scarff on Dec. 13. Those also present were Gerald and Kathryn Nebel, Don and Eldora Boshart, Bob and Phyllis Hartzler, and Inez Roth.

Shelly, Sophie, and Jacob Kongable were baptized Dec. 5, 2004, at the Winfield Presbyterian Church with Pastor Patte Henderson officiating.
Bryant Evans was selected to the 2004 KBUR Top Prep Football Team.
Aaron Zuspann, freshman forward graduate of WM, is a member of the Central College men’s basketball team.

Jana Seggerman and Chris Anderson were united in marriage on Aug. 21, 1999 at the Unity Church in Omaha.
Stacie Newcomb and Brent Venghaus were united in marriage on May 29, 1999, in Morning Sun.
Gayle Eland, age 92, of Winfield, died Dec. 19, 1999, at Sunrise Terrace Care Center.

Jess Settles, former WMU standout and now a sophomore at the University of Iowa, was named MVP of the Hawkeye Invitation Basketball tournament Dec. 2-3.
Krista Renee Johnson of Winfield, and Jason Eric Aird of Dubuque, were united in marriage Sept. 17, 1994, in Cedar Falls.
Kelsie Jean-Marie Wade was born Nov. 17, 1994, to DJ and Jennifer Wade of Winfield.

The John Deere Company recognized Winfield Equipment Company as a “Super Service Dealer.”
A public hearing by the Winfield School Board was held to discuss the latest news that Morning Sun officials have authorized whole-grade sharing with both WMU and Wapello School Districts.

Carl Lee, Columbus Junction, was honored to commemorate his 60-year membership in Good Faith Lodge of Winfield.
A public auction of the Neva H. Ball Estate was set for Dec. 8.
Shari Carden, local gymnast, participated in the Twin City Class I Invitational Meet in Minneapolis, Minnesota, winning three medals.
1974
Fifty-six men with combines, trucks, tractors, and wagons harvested 160 acres of corn for Frances Seyb.
Fire destroyed a tractor and tools in a shed at the Roy Black farm five miles northwest of Winfield.
