Terry Wasson and Larry Buffington were honored for 35 and 43 years, respectively, of service to the Winfield Fire Department on Dec. 19, 2009.
2005
Roger Sharp, senior vice president and branch manager of the Pilot Grove Savings Bank retired at the end of December 2004.
This year’s Lucia was Anne Graber, daughter of Elizabeth and Doug Graber, at Swedesburg’s Swedish Heritage Society celebration.
Karlie Wade was presented with a $75 check and certificate as the winner in the Child Health Month poster contest.
Britney Graber recently attended the Freedoms Foundation youth conference in Valley Forge, PA. She was awarded the trip by the Am-Vets for winning the essay contest.

Jason L. Bitting, age 29, of Keokuk, died Dec. 22, 1999, in Keokuk from injuries received while on duty as a firefighter.
Douglas Paul Steward, age 39, died Dec. 23, 1999, at University of Iowa Hospitals.
Donald W. Allen, age 60, of Olds, died Dec. 23, 1999.

Drew Michael Walter was born Dec. 15, 1994, to Angie and Brian Walter.
Dee and Charlie Messer celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on Dec. 26, 1994.
Mary Ann Riepe, age 93, formerly of Mt. Union, died Dec. 10, 1994.

The Winfield Library has changed its system from using names for identification to giving all borrowers a number.
A surprise party was held for Mildred and Ronald Crocker at the Iris Restaurant in Mt. Pleasant in honor of their 35th wedding anniversary.

Rodruck Feed & Grain Elevator complex in the northeast corner of Winfield was sold at auction to Gerling Farms, Melvin Gerling and son, for $9300.
Donald Boyd was the grand prize winner in the Winfield Merchants Rudolph’s Reward Chamber promotion.
Don Alan Johnson, age 29, of Winfield, was killed in a one-care accident the evening of Dec. 15.
WMU Board of Education reversed its decision to share baseball and softball with Morning Sun.
Andrew Paul Barber was born Dec. 10, 1984, to Roger and Julie Barber.

Mrs. Kay Geary won the $15 first prize in the Winfield Chamber of Commerce Christmas Decorations Contest for her tastefully decorated home.
Firemen were called to the homer Hillyard home Christmas Eve to extinguish a fire which has started when ashes from the fireplace caught the south side of the garage on fire.

Luann Cockayne and Jack Marston were married at the Presbyterian Church in Winfield on Dec. 16.
The United Presbyterian Church has called Rev. Herbert P Townsend, Jr. to be their new minister.
