2005
Residents in southeast Iowa woke Monday morning to rain and ice. Schools and local activities were canceled due to the inclement weather.
Ronald and Mildred (Conard) Crocker celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on December 31, 2004.
Harold Lewis “Smokey” Chrissinger, age 88, died Dec. 28, 2004, at the Lamoine Christian Nursing Home in Roseville, Illinois.
2000
The Winfield Council members and Mayor were sworn in Jan. 3, 2000 by Jan Walter, City Clerk. Serving are Larry Jennings, Mayor, and Council Members Chris Finnell, Richard Lauderdale, and Richard Hand.
1995
Eight outside fire departments with 105 men assisted the Winfield Fire Department at a major fire at Buff’s Farm and Auto, Napa Auto Parts, on Jan. 2, 1995. The building was a complete loss with more than $150,000 in damages.
Rob and Pam O’Brian, Cedar Rapids, became the parents of a daughter, Alyson Joan, born Dec. 20, 1994.
John Mark Griffith, age 42, of Sanger, Texas and formerly of Crawfordsville, died Dec. 25, 1994.
1990
Mark Rodruck was presented with an Iowa Football Coaches Association Academic Award.
Pearl Lowe was installed as Worthy Matron of the Winfield Chapter Order of Eastern Star #413.
Mark underwood has completed his graduate work at the University of Hawaii and will be conferred his Doctor of Philosophy degree in Hydrogeology.
1985
Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Wickham will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary.
Cynthia Louise Jennings and Kerry Lee Phillips exchanged wedding vows.
WMU girls’ basketball had a win with Kim Walter scoring 25 points, Robin Lauderdale 21, Michelle Garris 20, Jennifer Krieger had 14 rebounds.
1980
The water tower at the east city park is no more.
Leonard Hesseltine presided as the new president at the Chamber of Commerce meeting. Cicel Linder served as vice president, Carolyn Hagge secretary, and Pat Goodman treasurer.
Over 200 friends and family attended the 40th wedding anniversary open house at the Presbyterian Church for bill and Wahneetah Hamilton.
1975
Dorilys Cline and Cynthia Jennings, students at WMU; Vicky Hertig of Wayland, and Rodney Hanze of Swedesburg, both students at WACO; were among high school seniors named as State of Iowa Scholars for 1975.
Melvin Gerling will be installed as Worshipful Master of Good Faith Lodge No. 235.
The Grand Opening of the new Winfield Equipment Company and Farming Frontiers ’75 is to be held Jan. 10, 1975.
