Out of Winfield’s Past

2015

At approximately 2 a.m. on Jan. 11, 2015, a resident on the north side of Winfield called 911 after he woke up to his dog barking and found a 20-30-year-old male coming through his sliding glass door. When confronted the man ran away.

2005

Former WMU player and coach, John Snyder, has recently been selected by the Region One Indiana Football Coaches Association to represent the north squad in the annual north/south all-star football game in July.

Ice caused part of a tree to fall over, striking the home of Mark and Barb Hamilton.

Nile A. Jones, age 99, of Letts, died Jan. 6, 2005, at the Colonial Manor Care Center in Columbus Junction.

2000

The WMU marching band has put into motion the purchase of new uniforms. A total of 70 uniforms will cost a total of $19,043.30.

Jeremy M. Barrett (Spence), a 1999 graduate of WMU has completed basic training at the Great Lakes, Illinois Naval Base.

1995

Buff’s Farm and Auto, damaged by a major fire on Jan. 2, has announced plans to reopen, repair, remodel, and rebuild.

William and Karolyn Crawford are the parents of a baby girl. Anna Karoline was born Dec. 16, 1994.

1990

Lisa Larson was the top scorer in the WMU-MS game with Danville. She had 18 points and eight steals.

Donald and Jean Kracaw are having a farm equipment auction on Feb. 3 east of Wyman.

1985

Orville Pounds has retired as a postal carrier after 30 years of service.

Wanda Tipton and Andrew McCauley were married Jan. 2, 1985, at the Little White Chapel in Las Vegas.

Mr. and Mrs. Curtis Pefferman are the parents of a baby boy. Austin Paul was born Dec. 20, 1984.

1980

The Winfield Fire Department was called to the Sonny Bunker home, 402 E. Wallace, where fire of an undetermined origin damaged the playroom.

William McKasson and wife, Lucille, have announced the sale of the Barton-McKasson Funeral Home in Winfield to Michael J. Honts and his wife, Sherry.

1975

Winfield and Mt. Pleasant hauled water to Olds as that town was out of water.

Kathleen Sue Rodgers and Randy Dean Seberg were united in Marriage on Dec. 27, 1974.
