2010
A two-vehicle accident resulted in one injury on Jan. 13 on Highway 218. David Richardson, age 43, of Crawfordsville, was transported by ambulance to the University of Iowa Hospital for a non-life-threatening injury he sustained in the collision. According to the report, a semi driven by Caleb Caldwell of Bowling Green, Missouri, was traveling southbound when he rear-ended Richardson’s vehicle, a 740 John Deere tractor pulling a wagon. The tractor rolled onto its side and Caldwell’s semi went into the west ditch.
2005
Pilot Grove Savings Bank presented a check for $500 to Judy Anderson, member of Winfield Fire and Rescue Department.
The 10 finalists from WMU in the School Level of the National Geography Bee were Katie Arnold, Skyler Davis, Derek Dedic, Brennan Haymond, Clayton Robison, Cole Benson, Megan Escher, Elaina Loyd, Ty Reynolds, and Luke Venghaus. Megan Escher was the winner and will be eligible to compete in the State Bee.
2000
Tucker, and outside cat that became an inside cat, has officially become a resident at Sunrise Terrace Care Center.
Wesley and Sonya Love-Smith became the parents of a daughter. Margaret Danielle “Maggie” Smith was born Jan. 5, 2000.
The family of Duane C. Griggs honored him with an open house in celebration of his 80th birthday on Jan. 23.
1995
Two new faces at Hagge Insurance are Judy Anderson and Jason Hagge.
Superintendent Laverne Hueholt has resigned, effective June 30, 1995.
1990
The WMU Swing Choir received a I rating Jan. 13 at the contest of the Iowa High School Music Association held at Lone Tree.
Those from WMU participating in the Key Central College Music Festival Jan. 25 were Emily Riordan, Karen Lowe, Amber Binkele, Jason Massey, Scott Kuehn, and Andy Russell.
Members of Winfield’s Chamber of Commerce officially welcomed Casey’s General Store in Winfield.
1985
Thirty-seven pints of blood were drawn Jan. 3, 1985. New donors were Patricia Clark and Cleda Crill. Gallon donor pins were awarded to Larry Jennings, Richard Larson, Gary Miller, Robert Morse, and Edward Neil.
An estate land auction was held for the O.V. Abrahamson Estate.
1980
Darrell Jones received minor injuries when the 1977 Chevrolet truck he was driving overturned on its top at the intersection of Highways 78 and 249. The truck was owned by Rodruck Feed and Grain.
WMU School Board approved self-contained classrooms for fourth, fifth, and sixth grades at Mt. Union for the coming year.
1975
Bob Lindell was elected president of the Winfield Chamber of Commerce. Dave Tandy was elected vice president, Barb Long secretary, and Phyllis Fricke treasurer.
Mick Garris, Doug Moser, and Garrett Van Vranken were elected to the board of the Winfield Area Recreation Center. Other members are Jim Brooks, Don Helphrey, Don Shaw, and Keith Walker.
